About LeapFound

LeapFound is building an operational intelligence platform: a system that pulls together real-world operational and financial data, reasons across it, and surfaces decisions before small problems become expensive ones. The architecture spans multiple layers, from data ingestion through to cross-signal reasoning and outcome learning. Core detection capability is already in production, and we're actively working with early customers.

We're not looking for someone to take a spec and execute it line by line. We want someone confident enough in their own judgement to tell us when the spec is wrong.

The role

This is a founding engineering position with real ownership of the backend, and enough range to step into the frontend when it's needed. The architecture and product direction are already documented. Your job is to build against that direction, push back where it doesn't hold up, and take full responsibility for what you ship.

What you'll be doing

● Designing and shipping the signal-detection engines that turn raw operational data into something an operator can actually trust and act on.

● Building out the cross-signal reasoning layer — the piece that correlates multiple independent signals into one coherent judgement, and the core of what makes the product work.

● Owning the outcome-learning layer, so the system gets better from its own results over time.

● Handling third-party data integrations, including mapping and reconciling data that doesn't arrive clean.

● Taking responsibility for production reliability — monitoring, incident response, and getting to the root cause when something breaks.

● Sitting in on architecture and product decisions, not just being handed them.

What you'll bring

● Deep, production-grade fluency in Python, and real experience designing APIs, not just building on top of ones that already exist.





● Robust command of relational database design — schema decisions, migrations, and performance, made with an understanding of how they'll hold up as the system scales.

● Equal fluency on the frontend, with a strongly-typed, component-based approach — you write frontend code with the same discipline you write backend code, not as an afterthought.

● A working understanding of how modern systems are built, deployed, and kept alive in production — containerised services, continuous deployment, and the monitoring that tells you something's wrong before a customer does.

● Real experience integrating with external systems and APIs, including the security and reliability considerations that come with handling someone else's data.

These are the baseline expectations for this role, not the differentiators. What we're actually evaluating is below.

What we're actually looking for

● A real production track record — systems you've shipped and kept running that people actually depended on.

● Judgement with data: the ability to take something inconsistent and incomplete and turn it into an output people can trust. This is the central challenge of the role.

● System-level thinking — you can reason about schema design, service boundaries and failure modes without needing every detail spelled out for you.

● Directness — you raise a problem with a spec or a piece of architecture early, not after it's shipped.

● Comfort with ambiguity and ownership — you're used to making the call yourself and standing behind it.

We're not screening for a long list of frameworks or a years-of-experience threshold. We're screening for judgement, rigour, and the ability to actually finish things.

Good to have, not required

● Experience with anomaly detection, rule-based alerting, or decision-support systems.

● Experience as the senior technical owner of a small team or system.

● Experience with financial or transactional data integrations of any kind.
