The role

We are building an Android application that runs locked down and unattended on commercial display hardware, for months at a time, in places nobody maintains and on networks nobody manages.

This is embedded Android, not consumer app work. Nobody notices it working. Everybody notices when it stops.

What you will build

- An application locked in kiosk mode that cannot be exited and restarts itself on boot

- Offline first playback from a local cache, with resumable downloads, hash verification and atomic swap

- Staged application updates with automatic rollback, delivered without any application store

- Device enrolment, identity and capability reporting

- A long poll sync client with fallback to interval polling

- A durable on device event journal that survives power loss

- Trusted time and scheduling that keep working while offline

Must have
- Five years or more of Android engineering, including two on unattended devices: point of sale, kiosks, set top boxes, telematics, industrial panels or similar

- Kotlin, to a high standard





- Device owner provisioning and lock task mode on manufacturer firmware

- Media3 or ExoPlayer, including memory behaviour under continuous video playback

- Silent package installation and update outside any application store

- Building without Google services. The target hardware has no Play Services, no Firebase and no Google sign in

- Strong hands on diagnostics: the debug bridge, logcat, dumpsys, boot and memory analysis

Good to have
- WorkManager and foreground services across several platform versions

- The local network permission model in recent Android versions

- Having supported a device fleet in the field

- Manufacturer professional display control interfaces
