Role configuring, deploying, and managing Vertex O Series as tax rules evolve. The engagement covers the full Vertex lifecycle — from instance setup and installation through ongoing configuration and production deployments. Work is structured on a shared, part-time basis across a small consulting team.

Extensively use the configuration and UI features of Vertex O-Series, and a strong working knowledge of these is a fundamental expectation for this role.

n

Additionally, a strong understanding of business requirements, hands-on Vertex O-Series configuration experience covering US and European tax rules, the ability to test data in bulk, and proficiency with Vertex reporting are all minimum requirements for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

n

Vertex Configuration

n

n
- Analyze current and evolving tax rules and map them to Vertex configuration settings
n
- Configure tax rules, Boolean logic conditions, product/service taxability codes, and jurisdictional settings
n
- Translate complex tax requirements and conditional rule structures into accurate Vertex rule definitions
n
- Work with the team to validate configurations against real-world transaction scenarios
n
- Document configuration decisions, rule logic, and change rationale for audit and handoff purposes
n

Instance Setup & Installation

n

n
- Lead end-to-end Vertex instance provisioning and installation (cloud-hosted or on-prem)
n
- Configure system-level settings,



connectors, and integrations with ERP and commerce platforms
n
- Manage environment setup across dev, staging, and production tiers
n
- Ensure proper data flows between Vertex and upstream/downstream systems
n

Ongoing Management & Deployment

n

n
- Manage and deploy configuration changes as tax rules evolve over time
n
- Monitor instance health, performance, and availability
n
- Handle version upgrades, patches, and platform maintenance
n
- Support deployment of rule changes through production environment
n
- Support tax audits by providing configuration documentation and transaction-level traceability
n
- Coordinate workstream ownership across the shared consultant team
n

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

n

n
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Vertex O Series or Vertex Cloud experience — configuration and administration
n
- Strong understanding of U.S. sales & use tax rule structures
n
- Experience with Boolean logic and conditional tax rule configuration in a tax engine
n
- Instance setup and environment management expertise
n
- Familiarity with integrating Vertex into large-scale e-commerce or ERP environments
n
- Understanding of U.S. marketplace facilitator legislation and its impact on tax engine configuration
n
- Ability to work within a shared/part-time consulting model, coordinating across team members
n

NICE TO HAVE

- Vertex O Series Associate Implementer certification or equivalent
n
- Prior experience supporting a large marketplace platform
n
- Avalara AvaTax experience as a complementary platform
n
- Experience with SAP or Oracle ERP integrations with Vertex
