Role overview The Lead DBA will own end-to-end database administration, architecture decisions, and operational health across multi-cloud and on-prem environments. This role requires hands-on depth in Oracle and PostgreSQL, strong AWS cloud database skills, and the ability to lead a distributed remote team while managing SLAs and critical incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Own all database activities — provisioning, configuration, performance, backup, patching, and upgrades across Oracle and PostgreSQL environments.

• Lead and coordinate remote DBA team; drive onsite activities and stakeholder collaboration.

• Architect and manage AWS cloud database workloads on RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, and EC2.

• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks using AWR, ADDM, ASH, SQL Trace, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and pg_stat_statements.

• Configure and validate backup/DR strategies using Oracle RMAN, pgBackRest, and pg_basebackup; conduct PITR and DR drills.

• Execute major/minor version upgrades, PSU/RU patching, and cross-platform schema refreshes.

• Automate routine DBA tasks via Linux Shell/Bash, PL/SQL, Terraform, and Ansible.

• Monitor system health via OEM 13c, pgAdmin, CloudWatch, and RDS Performance Insights; respond to alerts proactively.

• Manage P1/P2 incidents, change requests, and SLA adherence via ServiceNow/Jira.





Technical skills

Oracle database

○ Oracle 11g, 12c, 19c — standalone and multi-tenant (CDB/PDB) architectures

○ Performance tuning: AWR, ADDM, ASH, SQL Trace, Execution Plans

○ RMAN backup, restore, PITR, data guard basics

Postgresql & open-source databases

○ PostgreSQL — Community, EDB, RDS/Aurora; EXPLAIN ANALYZE, pg_stat_statements

○ pgBackRest, pg_basebackup for backup/DR

○ MySQL and MS SQL Server — working exposure

AWS cloud database administration

○ RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL, EC2-based DB workloads

○ CloudWatch monitoring, RDS Performance Insights

Automation & IaC

○ Linux Shell/Bash scripting, PL/SQL

○ Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation

Monitoring & ITSM

○ Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM 13c), pgAdmin

○ ServiceNow / Jira for incident, change, and SLA management

Qualifications

• B.E. / B.Tech / MCA in Computer Science, IT, or related discipline.

• 5–7 years of hands-on DBA experience across Oracle and PostgreSQL.

• Demonstrated experience on AWS managed database services.

• Oracle OCP / AWS Database Specialty certifications — preferred.

• Robust communication skills; ability to lead distributed remote teams.

• Familiarity with ITSM processes and on-call incident management.
