Job Title: Labor Room Staff

Reports To : Nursing In-Charge/Medical Director

Job Summary: The labor room staff nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to women during the antenatal, intrapartum (labor & delivery), and immediate postpartum periods, ensuring patient safety and comfort. The role involves working collaboratively with obstetricians, pediatricians, anaesthetists, and other clinical professionals to support normal and complicated childbirths in accordance with hospital.

Key Responsibility:
Clinical & Patient Care
Monitor maternal and fetal vital signs, including BP, pulse, temperature, FHS, contractions, etc., throughout labor.
Provide direct nursing care to laboring patients, including preparation, support, and comfort measures.
Assist obstetricians and midwives during normal and complicated deliveries (vaginal and operative), including C-sections as required.
Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as per doctors’ orders.




Provide immediate newborn care after delivery and support initial breastfeeding.
Maintain a sterile and secure labor room workplace; prepare equipment, instruments, and supplies for procedures.
Recognize and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies such as fetal distress or postpartum hemorrhage.

Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate patient records, delivery charts, partographs, and nursing documentation.
Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and hygiene standards (NABH norms).

Coordination & Support
Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Assist in patient admission, transfer, and discharge activities in collaboration with other departments.

Qualification:
Diploma / Certificate in General Nursing & Midwifery or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
Knowledge in BLS is mandatory.
