Assistant Finance Manager
Position Title: Assistant Finance Manager
Department: Finance
Reports To: Finance Manager
Location: New Marine Lines, Mumbai
Employment Type: Full time
Experience Required: 4-6 years
Compensation Range: 5-6 LPA
1. Role Purpose
This role exists to serve as a key operational and supervisory anchor of the Finance function, combining hands-on accounting execution with oversight of day-to-day operations.
The Assistant Finance
Manager is responsible for ensuring that accounting activities from daily transaction processing to monthly book closure are executed accurately and on schedule, that the organisation maintains full statutory compliance, and that leadership and external stakeholders receive timely, reliable financial information. The role also provides day-to-day guidance to junior finance team members and is expected to progressively take on greater independence in closing the books, liaising with the statutory and donor auditors and leading budget-versus-actuals reviews.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1 Accounting & Book Closure
- Complete monthly book closure within defined timelines, including bank/ERP-Tally reconciliation, payroll allocation, and cost-centre or fund mapping
- Complete accounting entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the organisation's Chart of Accounts
- Review and account all invoices/ reimbursements and update the payment trackers and process the payments
- Complete day-to-day bank statement checking, transaction tracking, and receipt issuance
- Complete weekly reconciliation of receipts and collections against the accounting system and supporting trackers
- Maintain and update the Accounts Manual and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on a periodic basis
- Prepare and update financial data for management and finance review presentations
2.2 Budgeting, MIS & Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly Budget vs Actuals (BvA) statements and present findings to management
- Prepare periodic cash flow statements in coordination with the Finance Manager
- Coordinate stakeholder and donor reporting compiling supporting data, preparing utilisation certificates or equivalent reports, and ensuring on-time submission
- Manage and update budgets and grant/fund allocations across programmes, projects, or cost centres within the ERP and coordination with the management for inputs on the same
- Maintain MIS trackers and Excel-based financial models to support management reporting
2.3 Compliance & Statutory Filings
- Own the compliance calendar and ensure timely filing of TDS, Professional Tax (PT), Provident Fund (PF), ESIC, and GST, along with related returns
- Complete monthly payroll-related statutory processing (TDS, PF, ESIC, PT) with supporting documentation and system entries
- Maintain and update the Compliance Tracker, flagging upcoming deadlines to leadership well in advance
2.4 Audit Coordination
- Prepare half-yearly and annual audit documentation, coordinating data extraction, sample preparation, and query resolution with external auditors
- Support closure of audit queries on items owned by the Finance team
2.5 Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as a Finance point of contact for programme/operational teams, HR & Admin, and fundraising and other support functions.
- Coordinate payroll inputs, joining/exit data, and statutory compliance data with HR & Admin
- Support proposal and reporting requirements by providing financial data as requested by other functions
2.6 Team Supervision & Process Governance
- Maintain ERP and approval workflows within defined turnaround times
- Drive continuous improvement of finance processes and documentation
3. Qualifications & Experience
3.1 Required
- B.Com / M.Com or CA Inter (semi qualified);
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience as a semi qualified CA, including exposure to both transactional accounting and financial reporting/compliance.
- Proficiency in Tally Prime and Advanced excel
- Working knowledge of GST, TDS, PF, ESIC, PT and related filing processes
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage both routine processing and higher-level review responsibilities
- Proficiency in English and the local working language(s) relevant to the organisation's location
3.2 Preferred
- Prior CA firm experience
- Experience in payroll processing for mid-sized teams
- Comfort with MIS systems and Excel-based financial modelling
Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹600,000.00 per year
