JOB DESCRIPTION – SPANISH TEACHER

1. Job Purpose

The Spanish Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, inquiry-driven and student-centred Spanish language instruction aligned with the philosophy, standards and practices of the International Baccalaureate (IB).

The role aims to develop students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing while building intercultural understanding, confidence in communication and appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Teaching & Learning

- Plan and deliver high-quality Spanish lessons aligned with the relevant IB curriculum framework and school academic expectations.
- Develop students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish.
- Use inquiry-based, concept-driven and student-centred teaching methodologies.
- Design learning experiences appropriate to students' language proficiency, age and learning needs.
- Differentiate instruction to support varying levels of language ability and learning needs.
- Integrate authentic Spanish-language resources, literature, media, technology and real-world contexts into classroom instruction.
- Encourage active communication in Spanish and create an immersive language-learning environment.
- Promote independent learning, critical thinking, collaboration and effective communication.

B. IB Curriculum Planning & Delivery

- Develop and maintain curriculum plans, units of inquiry/unit planners, lesson plans and teaching resources in accordance with IB requirements.
- Ensure appropriate alignment between learning objectives, teaching strategies and assessment.
- Incorporate relevant IB Learner Profile attributes and Approaches to Teaching and Learning into classroom practice.
- Participate in curriculum mapping,



vertical and horizontal articulation and interdisciplinary planning.
- Contribute to periodic curriculum review and improvement.
- Maintain appropriate documentation required for IB programme implementation and authorization/evaluation processes.

C. Student Assessment & Progress

- Design and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum objectives and IB assessment principles.
- Assess students across relevant language competencies including listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement and progress.
- Provide timely, specific and constructive feedback to students.
- Analyse assessment outcomes and modify teaching strategies based on identified learning needs.
- Prepare progress reports and communicate student achievement and areas for development to students and parents.
- Provide appropriate intervention and enrichment for students where required.

D. Student Development & Well-being

- Build positive, respectful and inclusive relationships with students.
- Create a safe classroom environment that encourages students to communicate confidently in a new language.
- Recognise individual learning needs and collaborate with appropriate school teams to provide necessary support.
- Encourage student agency, responsibility and ownership of learning.
- Support the school's expectations regarding student behaviour, safeguarding and well-being.
- Contribute to students' holistic development beyond academic achievement.

E. Cultural & Language Enrichment

- Promote awareness and appreciation of the cultures, traditions, history and contemporary life of Spanish-speaking countries.




- Organise or contribute to language-related events, cultural celebrations, competitions, assemblies and enrichment activities.
- Encourage opportunities for students to use Spanish beyond the classroom.
- Support language clubs, international events, cultural exchanges or other co-curricular activities where applicable.

F. Collaboration & School Contribution

- Work collaboratively with the Contemporary Foreign Languages team, coordinators and other teaching faculty.
- Participate actively in department meetings, faculty meetings, curriculum planning and professional learning communities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery and assessment practices.
- Participate in school events, parent meetings, student activities, field trips and other assigned responsibilities.
- Undertake homeroom/advisory responsibilities where assigned.
- Contribute positively to the wider school community and culture.

G. Parent Communication

- Maintain professional and constructive communication with parents regarding student progress.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other academic review meetings.
- Communicate academic concerns early and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in all student and parent interactions.

H. Professional Development

- Remain current with developments in IB education, language pedagogy and educational technology.
- Participate in IB workshops and school-provided professional development programmes.
- Actively engage in classroom observation, feedback, coaching and professional reflection.
- Identify personal development goals through the school's Performance Management System.
- Share effective teaching practices and resources with colleagues.

Pay: ₹80,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
