Position: Senior Credit Manager

Industry: NBFC

Location: Chennai

Experience: 6–8 years in Credit, preferably in NBFC / Banking

Role Purpose:

The Senior Credit Manager will be responsible for managing and strengthening the credit function

for the small ticket unsecured business loan portfolio, with primary accountability for maintaining a

healthy balance between business growth, credit quality, portfolio performance and risk-adjusted

returns.

The role will involve evaluating credit proposals, setting and implementing credit frameworks,

ensuring adherence to credit policies, monitoring portfolio quality, identifying emerging risks and

working closely with Business, Operations, Collections, Risk and Product teams.

The candidate should have strong expertise in cash-flow based lending, business loan underwriting,

banking analysis, fraud identification, policy interpretation and portfolio risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

Credit Underwriting & Decision Making

- Evaluate and approve/recommend small ticket unsecured business loan proposals within the

delegated authority matrix.

- Assess borrower and business creditworthiness using a combination of:

o Bureau reports and repayment behaviour

o Banking transactions and cash flows

o GST / income / financial data, wherever applicable

o Business vintage and stability

o Business turnover and profitability

o Existing debt obligations and leverage

o Promoter profile and credit history

o Industry and geographic risks

o End-use of funds

- Analyse banking behaviour, including credits/debits, average balances, cheque returns, EMI

servicing, cash intensity and banking conduct.

- Identify early warning signals, over-leverage, bureau stress,



repayment capacity concerns

and potential fraud indicators.

- Take independent and well-reasoned credit decisions while ensuring adherence to approved

credit policies and risk appetite.

- Ensure appropriate deviations are documented with clear rationale, mitigants and approval

as per authority matrix.

- Maintain strong focus on credit quality without unnecessarily compromising legitimate

business opportunities.Credit Policy & Process Management

- Support development, review and enhancement of credit policies for unsecured business

lending.

- Recommend changes to credit parameters, eligibility criteria, scorecards, FOIR/obligation

norms, bureau cut-offs, exposure limits, pricing and risk-based segmentation based on

portfolio performance.

- Establish and monitor credit quality benchmarks across branches/channels/locations.

- Ensure consistent application of credit policies across the credit team.

- Identify gaps in existing underwriting processes and recommend automation, system rules

and process improvements.

- Work with Risk/Product/Technology teams to improve rule engines, credit scorecards and

automated decisioning.

Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management

- Conduct regular portfolio reviews and identify emerging risks.

- Analyse portfolio performance by product, ticket size, geography,



customer segment,

sourcing channel, bureau profile and vintage.

- Provide recommendations for corrective action wherever deterioration is observed.

- Work closely with Collections to understand delinquency trends and incorporate learnings

into underwriting.

- Participate in early warning and portfolio review forums and ensure timely escalation of

material credit risks.

- Ensure compliance with applicable RBI regulations, internal policies, delegation of authority,

KYC requirements and other applicable regulatory guidelines.

Team Management

- Lead, coach and mentor Credit Managers / Credit Officers as applicable.

- Ensure the team maintains high standards of underwriting quality, documentation and

turnaround time.

- Set individual and team-level performance expectations.

- Conduct regular case reviews and identify training requirements.

- Ensure appropriate maker-checker controls and segregation of duties within the credit

process.

Educational Qualification: MBA / PGDM in Finance, Banking, Risk Management or equivalent

qualification preferred.

Experience:

- 6–8 years of relevant experience in Credit Underwriting / Credit Risk / Portfolio Risk.

- Prior experience in NBFC or Bank is preferred.

- Robust experience in unsecured business loans, MSME loans, business lending or other

cash-flow based lending products.

- Candidates with experience managing high-volume, small-ticket credit portfolios will be

preferred.

- Experience in leading a credit team and handling delegated credit authority is desirable.

Pay: ₹25,479.49 - ₹89,661.76 per month
