Job SummaryThe Medical Typist is responsible for accurately transcribing medical reports, radiology findings, and other clinical documentation dictated by radiologists and physicians. The role requires excellent typing skills, knowledge of medical terminology, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to deliver reports within defined turnaround times.
- Key ResponsibilitiesTranscribe dictated medical reports accurately and efficiently.
- Type radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI, X-ray, and other diagnostic reports as assigned.
- Ensure correct spelling of medical terminology, anatomical terms, investigations, and clinical findings.
- Review typed reports for spelling, grammar, formatting, and typographical errors.
- Maintain the prescribed report format and organizational standards.
- Clarify unclear or incomplete dictations with the concerned radiologist/physician before finalizing reports.
- Ensure reports are completed within the specified Turnaround Time (TAT).
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and medical reports.
- Handle corrections and modifications to reports as instructed by authorized doctors.
- Coordinate with radiologists, technicians, front office, and other relevant departments for report completion.
- Ensure proper identification and matching of patient details with the respective reports.
- Upload, save, or route completed reports through the designated reporting/PACS/HIS system.
- Maintain accuracy while handling a high volume of reports.
- Follow hospital/diagnostic centre policies, quality standards, and data-security procedures.
- Perform any other duties related to medical transcription and reporting as assigned by management.
- Required SkillsExcellent English typing speed and accuracy.
- Good knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
- Good listening and comprehension skills.
- Ability to understand medical abbreviations and terminology.
- Good computer knowledge, including MS Word and relevant hospital/diagnostic software.
- Familiarity with HIS/RIS/PACS is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict TAT requirements.
- Valuable communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Educational QualificationAny Graduate / Diploma in Medical Transcription / Medical Records or a relevant qualification.
- Candidates with healthcare, medical transcription, radiology, or diagnostic-centre experience will be preferred.
Experience1–3 years of relevant experience may be considered.
Experienced candidates with knowledge of radiology/diagnostic reporting will be preferred.
