Feminist Alliance Trust (FEMAT) is looking for final year law students, fresh law graduates and interested legal practitioners to support our Law and Governance program. Under this program, FEMAT provides free legal counselling to women and vulnerable groups, pro-bono lawyers for appropriate litigation, and promotes gender-mainstreaming of governance and institutional reforms via RTI, PIL and other legal mechanisms. The ideal candidate is someone with demonstrated interests in social justice issues particularly women’s rights.

This is a Volunteer role in hybrid mode. The volunteer will support FEMAT’s Law and Governance program by assisting with research and drafting work. Mainly:

- Conduct preliminary legal research and literature reviews on judicial precedents, legislation, policy documents, Law Commission reports, international laws, covenants, good practices, media reports, and academic studies.
- Assist in drafting pleadings, writ petitions, RTI applications, and materials for public awareness campaigns.
- Provide preliminary assistance to vulnerable persons seeking legal counselling and pro-bono legal representation through FEMAT.
- Support field-based campaigns, legal awareness initiatives, and public outreach programmes, as and when required and feasible.
- Collaborate closely with the founder and team, participate in internal planning meetings, and provide administrative and operational support as needed to ensure smooth functioning of FEMAT’s projects.

Qualifications

- Strong understanding of civil, criminal and constitutional laws, international covenants
- Awareness of the latest legal developments in India
- Robust research skills
- Strong writing skills
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic about social justice and women's rights.
- Ability to work on social media campaigns and content creation will be added qualification

· New position maybe created for deserving candidates.

Location

· The position is hybrid and majority of the work may be carried out remotely.

· Occasional field visits maybe required for public awareness campaigns and research etc. Accordingly, candidates from Delhi NCR, particularly West Delhi, maybe preferred as the registered office of the organization is in Mahavir Enclave, New Delhi.

Remuneration

· All positions presently announced by FEMAT are voluntary and offered on a pro-bono basis.

· All volunteers will be provided with an institutional email.

· All interns completing one-month of internship will be provided with a competition certificate.

Travel and miscellaneous expenses related to field based activities carried out on behalf of the organization will be reimbursed on as-is basis.

Feminist Alliance Trust (FEMAT) works towards ending gender-based violence and discrimination by (1) Feminist transformation and consciousness building; (2) Dismantling the system of gender-segregation of spaces into public and private and facilitating spatial justice for women; (3) Providing free legal counselling, pro-bono lawyer and feminist infrastructure such as short-stay residence for WLVs (women leaving violence), and (4) Gender mainstreaming of governance and feminist institutional reforms.

The Trust was formally registered in March 2025, but its vision is rooted in the long-standing feminist work and commitment of its founder—Advocate Dr.

Basu. Women’s access to public sphere, individual rights and aspirations over and beyond community and religion based roles, and constitutional and liberal values are our core principles and visions. Our strategy is to foster feminist alliances with existing civil society organizations, public and private institutions and other stakeholders to share feminist knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve our vision.

The Trust is presently led by Dr Basu in her capacity as the founder and ad-hoc Executive Director with support from co-founder and Trustee Ms. Leher Sethi, a dedicated social activist. All legally mandated paperwork and formalities have been complied with including PAN registration, 12A and 80G certification and NGO Darpan Certification. CSR1 and FCRA registration is in the process.
