Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME) to work as an On-Site Resident Engineer supporting a major SAN technology refresh and storage migration project.

The role will focus on VMware ESXi/vCenter operations, datastore optimization, VMware–SAN integration, IBM enterprise storage integration, large-scale storage migration, and VMware SRM/SRA-based Disaster Recovery.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience working in complex enterprise VMware and SAN environments and be comfortable working directly with customer infrastructure teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support SAN technology refresh activities, ensuring seamless integration between VMware infrastructure and recent IBM enterprise storage systems.
- Perform VMware datastore rebalancing, resizing and optimization in line with IBM best-practice recommendations.
- Manage and troubleshoot VMware ESXi and vCenter environments, including configuration, monitoring and performance tuning.
- Plan and execute large-scale VMware storage/data migrations from legacy storage to new IBM storage with minimal or zero downtime.
- Configure and validate external SAN/storage integrations within VMware environments.
- Work with storage and infrastructure teams on LUN provisioning, storage presentation, VMFS datastores and storage connectivity.
- Support VMware Storage vMotion and datastore/storage migration activities.




- Support Disaster Recovery operations using VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and Storage Replication Adapter (SRA).
- Participate in DR testing, failover, planned migration and failback activities.
- Provide technical guidance and VMware/storage best-practice recommendations to customer teams.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, migration plans, implementation procedures and as-built documentation.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks while ensuring operational continuity and enterprise standards.
- Collaborate closely with VMware, storage, network, application and customer infrastructure teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of hands-on VMware experience, preferably in enterprise data-center environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware ESXi and vCenter.
- Strong knowledge of VMware datastores and VMFS.
- Experience with datastore creation, resizing, rebalancing, optimization and migration.
- Strong experience with enterprise SAN/storage integration with VMware.
- Hands-on knowledge of FC/iSCSI, LUN provisioning, zoning, masking/mapping, HBA and multipathing.
- Practical experience with IBM enterprise storage platforms.




- Experience with large-scale VMware storage/data migration projects.
- Hands-on experience with Storage vMotion and/or datastore/storage migration.
- Experience performing migrations with minimal or zero downtime.
- Hands-on experience with VMware SRM and SRA.
- Experience with DR workflows, failover/failback and DR testing.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
- Experience working directly with customer infrastructure teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- VCP, VCAP or equivalent VMware certification.
- Experience with IBM FlashSystem, Storwize, SVC/Spectrum Virtualize or similar IBM enterprise storage platforms.
- Prior experience leading or supporting a SAN technology refresh.
- Experience with large-scale VMware storage migration projects.
- Experience working in complex enterprise data-center environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile Candidates who can demonstrate hands-on experience across the complete VMware + SAN + Storage lifecycle, rather than candidates whose experience is limited to VMware support, licensing or general infrastructure administration.
