Technical Officer (Hlth Sys. Strengthening for Immunization)

Responsibilities

- Support countries with actions for routine immunization coverage improvements, including an analysis of the cause of low coverage and development, implementation, and monitoring of operational plans to overcome the barriers to achieve high immunization coverage.

- Develop guidelines and facilitate training activities related to immunization and vaccine preventable disease control.

- Technical assistance to countries for overall immunization policy development as well as development of costed multi-year plans for immunization.

- Review opportunities for integrating immunization services with the health system in countries and provide technical support including monitoring the implementation of Gavi supported health system and immunization system activities. Support surveillance of adverse events following immunization (AEFI).

- Support relevant staff in IVD for surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases and use disease surveillance data to improve immunization strategies.

- Support at regional and country level for demand generation for vaccination including collaboration with other partner organizations.

- Support issues related to the availability and supply of quality vaccines and logistics.

- Mobilize and leverage resources technical, financial, and human-to support capacity strengthening, policy integration, and innovative programming and align resource mobilization efforts with WHO's strategic objectives.

- Deliver comprehensive, timely, client and solution-oriented technical and administrative support across all budget centers, proactively strengthening country office capacity through responsive engagement, collaboration, and accountability to deliver measurable results for Member States.

- Perform any other related work assigned by supervisors.





- Submit an end of assignment report (mandatory).

Required qualifications

Education

- Essential: Degree in medicine or health sciences

- Desirable: Post-graduate/Master's degree in public health, child health or related disciplines

Experience

- Essential: At least five years of relevant experience in immunization and vaccine preventable disease control programmes. Demonstrated exposure at international level.

- Desirable: Experience in Public health, healthsystems, vaccine preventable disease surveillance or communicable disease epidemiology.

Skills

- Thorough knowledge of public health and knowledge of immunization and vaccine preventable diseases control is essential. Knowledge and experience of monitoring, evaluation, and data analysis. Ability to plan and execute training at national and international levels. Ability to write concise reports, use computers and other modern office technologies effectively and appropriately. Negotiation skills to deal with national authorities and other agencies.
