About Yodest
Yodest is building an AI-powered CMS for newsrooms and digital media companies, combining content management, SEO, analytics, AI, and publishing workflows into one platform.
We are looking for a Technical Lead who can own the technical side of websites, WordPress, plugins, integrations, SEO infrastructure, and CMS development. This role is ideal for someone who has built a CMS from the ground up and understands both how websites are built and how publishers use them.
What You'll Own
- Lead website development, maintenance, optimization, and technical implementation for Yodest and publisher websites.
- Architect and build core CMS functionality such as content models, publishing workflows, and platform infrastructure and not just configure existing tools.
- Work extensively with WordPress, custom themes, plugins, APIs, CMS architecture, and third-party integrations.
- Develop, customize, maintain, and troubleshoot WordPress plugins and themes.
- Build custom functionality based on newsroom and publishing requirements.
- Work with frontend and backend technologies to improve website functionality and user experience.
- Manage integrations between the CMS and services such as analytics, search, newsletters, social platforms, advertising systems, payment systems, and other publishing tools.
- Own technical SEO implementation, including site architecture, metadata, canonical URLs, redirects, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, structured data/schema, internal linking, page speed, and Core Web Vitals.
- Ensure websites are technically optimized for Google Search, Google News, Google Discover, and other discovery platforms.
- Identify and fix technical issues affecting SEO, performance, indexing, publishing, and website stability.
- Build tools and workflows that make publishing and website management easier for editorial teams.
- Work closely with product and editorial teams to convert requirements into technical solutions.
- Review new CMS features, integrations, plugins, and website changes before deployment.
- Monitor website performance, errors, uptime, traffic, and technical SEO health.
- Maintain clean, scalable, secure, and well-documented code.
- Lead technical troubleshooting when issues occur across websites, CMS, plugins, APIs, or integrations.
- Work with developers, designers, SEO specialists, and editors to deliver projects from requirement to launch.
Required Skills
- Proven experience building a CMS from the ground up - genuine end-to-end web development, not just plugin or theme customization.
- Strong hands-on experience with WordPress development.
- Experience developing or customizing WordPress plugins and themes.
- Strong knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MySQL, and up-to-date web development practices.
- Experience working with REST APIs, webhooks, third-party APIs, and integrations.
- Strong understanding of CMS architecture, content models, taxonomies, publishing workflows, and website infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of technical SEO and website optimization.
- Experience with Google Search Console, Google Analytics/GA4, XML sitemaps, schema markup, redirects, indexing, canonicalization, and Core Web Vitals.
- Understanding of hosting, domains, DNS, SSL, CDN, caching, databases,
and website deployment.
- Experience debugging website, plugin, API, performance, and SEO issues.
- Comfortable working with Git/version control and development, staging, and production environments.
- Ability to work directly with non-technical teams and translate business/editorial requirements into technical solutions.
Good to Have
- Experience working with news websites, publishers, media companies, digital publications, or content-heavy websites.
- Experience with WordPress VIP, headless WordPress, or other enterprise CMS platforms.
- Experience building publishing, editorial, SEO, analytics, or monetization tools.
- Knowledge of Google News and Google Discover optimization.
- Experience with newsletters, paywalls, subscriptions, advertising platforms, or audience engagement tools.
- Experience with cloud hosting and CDN platforms.
- Experience integrating AI APIs or AI-powered content workflows.
- Understanding of website analytics and using data to improve website and publishing performance.
What We're Looking For You should be someone who can build, troubleshoot, optimize, and lead - someone who has architected a CMS end-to-end, not just someone who manages developers or configures existing tools. You should be comfortable opening the code, investigating a WordPress issue, fixing a plugin, reviewing an API integration, identifying an SEO problem, and working with the team to ship the solution.
Most importantly, you should understand that a publisher's website is not just a website. It is the core product through which content is published, discovered, distributed, and monetized.
Experience: 10+ years
