– Software Engineer / Software Team Leader – Switch Software & SONiC

About the Role
We are looking for creative, talented, and technically strong Software Engineers and a Software Team Leader to join the Edgecore Switch Software R&D; Team.
The team is responsible for the design, development, integration, and optimization of SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud), one of the world's leading open-source network operating systems.
You will work on enabling SONiC across Edgecore's next-generation high-speed Ethernet switches manufactured by Accton, a leading Taiwan-based networking OEM company.
This role provides an opportunity to work on advanced networking technologies, including high-performance switching, data center infrastructure, and optimization of AI training traffic between NICs and AI servers.
You will also collaborate with the global SONiC open-source community and engineers from leading technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, NVIDIA, and Cisco. This offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to industry-leading open-source networking projects, solve complex engineering challenges, and develop expertise in next-generation networking technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
Common Responsibilities
- Design, develop, debug, integrate, and verify software for SONiC-based networking platforms.
- Maintain and enhance software components for existing and next-generation Ethernet switching products.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex software and system-level issues.
- Develop product specifications, software design documents, test plans, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Hardware, ASIC, System, QA, Bring-up, Technical Support, and Application teams.
- Participate in software integration, system validation, product bring-up, and troubleshooting activities.
- Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.
- Work closely with global engineering teams and open-source communities.
- Stay updated with emerging networking technologies and industry trends.
- Utilize modern development tools, including AI-assisted software development tools, where appropriate.
Technical Domains
Depending on your experience and skill set, you may contribute to one or more of the following areas.
1. System / Driver / PHY Domain:
Responsibilities
- Study, design, develop, debug, and verify Linux-based drivers for platform peripherals such as SFP, fans, CPLD, FPGA, and switching ASICs.
- Develop and integrate low-level software for networking switch platforms.
- Work on PHY, SerDes, and high-speed networking technologies.
- Analyze and troubleshoot Layer 1 and physical-layer issues.
- Work with transceiver modules such as ZR and LPO.
- Troubleshoot and validate DAC, AEC, and AOC cable technologies.
- Work on emerging technologies such as Link Layer Retry (LLR) and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO).
- Develop and verify PTP (Precision Time Protocol) related drivers and functionality.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to understand platform-specific hardware architecture and configurations.
- Work on Linux-based infrastructure functionalities such as systemd and technical support dump generation.
- Study relevant CVE reports, apply applicable security patches, and verify fixes.
- Work on Xsight XISA / P4-like data-plane programmability related development.
- Perform low-level debugging, system bring-up, and hardware/software integration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in PHY, SerDes, or low-level networking technologies.
- Experience with Linux driver development.
- Knowledge of CPLD/FPGA driver development.
- Experience with transceiver modules and high-speed Ethernet interfaces.
- Knowledge of PTP and embedded system programming.
- Experience with networking ASICs such as Broadcom or Marvell.
2. Layer 2 Protocol Domain:
Responsibilities
- Study, design, develop, debug, and verify Layer 2 networking protocols and features.
- Develop and maintain Ethernet switching software components.
- Work on Layer 2 technologies such as VLAN, ARP, MAC learning, STP, LAG, and related switching functionality.
- Integrate protocol software with switching ASICs.
- Analyze and troubleshoot packet-processing and protocol-related issues.
- Perform feature integration and system-level validation on SONiC platforms.
- Collaborate with ASIC, hardware, system, QA, and application teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience developing Layer 2 networking protocols.
- Knowledge of VLAN, ARP, MAC learning, STP, LAG, and Ethernet switching.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking.
- Experience with network programming.
- Experience with Broadcom, Marvell, or other networking ASICs.
3. Layer 3 Protocol Domain:
Responsibilities
- Study, design, develop, debug, and verify Layer 3 networking protocols and routing functionality.
- Develop and maintain routing software components.
- Work on protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IP routing, ARP, IPv4/IPv6, routing tables, and ECMP.
- Integrate L3 protocol functionality with switching ASICs.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex routing and networking issues.
- Perform feature integration and system-level validation on SONiC platforms.
- Collaborate with ASIC, hardware, system, QA, and application teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with BGP, OSPF, or other routing protocols.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP.
- Knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, ECMP, routing tables, and packet forwarding.
- Experience with network programming.
- Experience with networking ASICs is an advantage.
4. QoS / Security / Layer 4 Domain:
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, debug, integrate, and verify QoS and network security features.
- Develop QoS functionalities including:
- RoCE
- COS
- DSCP
- Priority Groups (PG)
- PFC
- ECN
- DiffServ
- Develop security features such as:
- 802.1X
- RADIUS
- TACACS+
- LDAP
- SSH
- ACL
- Develop networking utilities and Layer 4 related features such as:
- Everflow
- ERSPAN
- NAT
- Understand switching ASIC behavior and its interaction with networking protocols and software features.
- Debug packet-processing, congestion management, QoS, and security-related issues.
- Perform feature integration and system-level validation on SONiC platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in QoS, traffic management, or network security.
- Knowledge of RoCE, PFC, ECN, DSCP, and congestion management.
- Experience with ACL, 802.1X, RADIUS, TACACS+, SSH, or LDAP.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming.
- Experience with networking ASICs.
Required Qualifications:
For Software Engineers (2+ Years)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant software development experience.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++.
- Fundamental knowledge of:

- Good understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Robust analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and global engineering environment.
For Software Team Leader (5+ Years)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant software development experience.
- Strong programming experience in C/C++.
- Hands-on expertise in at least one of the following domains:
- System / Driver
- PHY
- Layer 2 Protocol
- Layer 3 Protocol
- QoS / Security
- Good overall understanding of Ethernet switching and SONiC architecture.
- Ability to lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, and coordinate software development activities.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

- Experience with Linux kernel or embedded system programming.
- Experience with Python and Shell scripting.
- Familiarity with Git and software development workflows.
