The impact you’ll make

At Lam, as a Strategic Commodity Manager, you play a crucial role in managing Machining and Surface Treatment suppliers. You’ll develop and implement commodity strategies, align development deliverables, benchmark suppliers, negotiate agreements, and resolve delivery, cost, and production challenges. Navigating a highly visible and dynamic environment, your strategic expertise in implementing initiatives will support commodity availability, quality, and cost to maintain Lam's reliability and competitive edge.

This role requires driving operational excellence, building strategic supplier partnership, and enabling scalability to support business growth.

This role is responsible for developing and driving the commodity strategy for Metal Machining, Plastic Machining, Forgings, and Surface Treatments for India.

As a self-motivated leader, you will plan and supervise supplier contract management, concluding supplier negotiations, analytically formulating, and executing comprehensive supplier management strategies based on semiconductor technology landscapes and global business environments within global machining commodity.

What You’ll Do

- Develop and manage Lam’s supplier ecosystem in India across Machining and Surface Treatment commodities, ensuring alignment with business growth, localization, and supply chain objectives.
- Execute the commodity strategy by assessing market capabilities, identifying sourcing opportunities, driving supplier selection, and managing strategic supplier relationships aligned with business objectives.
- Lead supplier scouting, qualification, and onboarding efforts, including the development of second-source and dual-source strategies to improve supply continuity, resilience, cost competitiveness, and business continuity.
- Ensure flawless execution of supply chain development activities while delivering the highest levels of product quality, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction for Lam’s global stakeholders.
- Partner with suppliers and engineering teams to support recent product introductions (NPI), early supplier involvement (ESI), manufacturability improvements, cost reduction opportunities, and timely execution of supply chain development projects.




- Lead supply continuity and risk mitigation initiatives through dual sourcing, supplier capacity planning, business continuity programs, and proactive identification and mitigation of supply chain risks.
- Lead supplier capacity assessments, operational readiness reviews, and risk mitigation planning to support business growth, ramp readiness, and demand fluctuations.
- Serve as the primary interface between Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Finance organizations, resolving escalations and ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration to support business objectives.
- Drive inventory optimization, cost reduction, productivity improvements, and cash-flow initiatives in collaboration with Finance and Operations teams.
- Establish and monitor supplier performance metrics aligned with Annual Operating Plan (AOP) goals, driving continuous improvement in quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost competitiveness, and operational excellence.

Who We’re Looking For

- Bachelor or Masters degree.
- Minimum 10-12 years in Supply Chain Management/Commodity management in Engineering / Manufacturing Industry and > 10 Years in Commodity Management of Mechanical Portfolio
- Familiarity with Semiconductors, Aerospace, Electrical equipment Manufacturing or High-technology supply management practices, standards, and organizations.
- Business and technical background with a deep understanding of Mechanical Commodities such as Metal Machining, Plastic Machining, Forgings and Surface Treatments.
- Proven ability to gain partnerships, excel working and leading in a cross-functional environment with supply chain teams, manufacturing, quality, and product engineers.
- Strong knowledge of global supply chain processes, commodity management, strategic sourcing, supplier development and supplier relationships management.
- Proven experience of strong analytical and critical thinking skills with history of successful resolution, capability to drive transformation.
- Exhibit diligence, sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple tasks in fast paced workplace.
- Exceptional Leadership, negotiation, decision making, stakeholder management, people management skills.




- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning – setting vision and objectives, creating strategies, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Demonstrated experience in talent and organization development.
- Excellent analytical and written/oral communication skills with ability to communicate cross-functionally and with various levels of the organization including Executives.
- Fundamental understanding of should-cost or cost allocation & recognizes opportunities to improve product design for cost/quality/delivery by early supplier involvement.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and supply chain analytics tools
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods and commodities as related to cost structure.
- Familiar with and uses Quality Principles such as Lean, Six-Sigma, 8D etc.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in the capital equipment industry, e.g., Semiconductors, Aerospace, Medical equipment, etc.
- Proficient in Data Analytics & Presentation Skills.
- Six sigma green belt or above is a plus.
- Supply chain certification or courses.

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
