Job Overview

Bloomingdale International IB School is seeking an experienced and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator to lead and strengthen the school s inclusive education and student support practices across the PYP, MYP, and DP.

The SEN Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to support students with diverse learning needs and ensuring an inclusive, accessible, and supportive learning environment. The role involves close collaboration with teachers, parents, school leadership, and external specialists to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and appropriate accommodations that enable students to achieve their academic, social, emotional, and personal potential.

Key Responsibilities 1. SEN Strategy & Inclusion

Develop, implement, and review a whole-school SEN and inclusion framework aligned with IB Inclusion principles.

Support students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, speech and language difficulties, and other learning differences.

Promote inclusive and learner-centred practices across the PYP, MYP, and DP.

Lead the identification, assessment, intervention, and monitoring process for students requiring additional support.

Promote a culture of inclusion, equity, and respect throughout the school community.

1. Student Support & Individualized Education Plans

Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs and individualized support/accommodation plans. Collaborate with teachers to differentiate instruction, learning activities, resources, and assessment approaches.

Work closely with PYP, MYP, and DP Coordinators to ensure curriculum accessibility for diverse learners.

Monitor student progress and review intervention strategies based on individual needs and evidence of progress.

Ensure appropriate academic, behavioural, and emotional support is provided to students.

1. Teacher Support & Professional Development

Conduct workshops and training sessions for teachers on inclusive education and SEN practices. Provide guidance on differentiation, classroom accommodations, behavioural strategies, and assessment modifications.

Support teachers in implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

Provide individual consultation and practical strategies to teachers supporting students with additional learning needs.

Promote reflective and evidence-based approaches to inclusive teaching.

1. Parent & Community Engagement

Act as a liaison between parents, teachers, school leadership, and external specialists. Maintain regular and professional communication with parents regarding student needs, progress, and support strategies.





Conduct parent awareness sessions and workshops on learning differences, behavioural support, and home-based strategies.

Support parents in understanding appropriate interventions and educational accommodations.

1. Collaboration with External Specialists

Develop and maintain professional relationships with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, special educators, counsellors, and other relevant specialists. Coordinate diagnostic assessments and specialist interventions when required.

Review specialist reports and translate recommendations into appropriate educational support strategies.

Coordinate with external professionals to ensure continuity of support.

Ensure students with identified learning needs receive appropriate accommodations for IB assessments in accordance with applicable policies.

1. Assessment, Monitoring & Documentation

Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, IEPs, intervention plans, progress reports, and accommodations. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and make recommendations for adjustments where required.

Support teachers in implementing appropriate assessment accommodations.

Maintain documentation required for internal reviews, IB processes, and relevant regulatory requirements.

Assist in preparing SEN and inclusion documentation for IB authorization, evaluation, and inspections.

1. Leadership & Team Coordination

Provide leadership and guidance to SEN educators, learning support staff, and other student support professionals. Coordinate the work of the SEN team to ensure consistent and effective support across programmes.

Establish clear procedures for student referrals, assessments, interventions, and progress monitoring.

Contribute to whole-school academic and student-support planning.

Promote collaboration between academic teams and student support services.

Qualifications & Experience Essential

Postgraduate qualification in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Psychology, or a recognized field related to SEN.

Minimum 7-8 years of experience working with children with Special Educational Needs.

At least 2 years of experience working within an IB programme or IB school.

Strong understanding of inclusive education and learning support practices.

Experience developing and implementing IEPs and individualized support plans.

Strong knowledge of learning disabilities, behavioural support, differentiation, and intervention strategies.

Knowledge





Solid understanding of IB policies and practices related to inclusion, learning support, and assessment accommodations.

Knowledge of learning differences, behavioural support strategies, and assistive technologies.

Familiarity with differentiation strategies and evidence-based interventions.

Understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

Knowledge of student assessment and progress-monitoring practices.

Skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, school leadership, and external professionals.

Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

IB-certified training in Inclusion, Learning Support, or SEN Coordination.

Certification or training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Dyslexia Therapy, Educational Psychology, or related areas.

Experience managing or mentoring a team of SEN educators or learning support professionals.

Experience working with multilingual learners and culturally diverse student populations.

Experience supporting students across multiple IB programmes such as PYP, MYP, and DP.
