Site Engineer – Road Works

Experience

Minimum 5 Years of Relevant Experience

Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant site experience in road construction, preferably with experience in both Flexible Pavement and Rigid Pavement works.
- Experience in government, highway, infrastructure, or major road construction projects will be preferred.

Job Responsibilities The Site Engineer will be responsible for the supervision, execution, quality control, measurement, and coordination of road construction activities at the project site.
1. Road Construction & Site Execution

- Supervise day-to-day construction activities for flexible and rigid pavement roads.
- Ensure execution of works as per approved drawings, specifications, BOQ, method statements, and applicable standards.
- Supervise earthwork, embankment, subgrade preparation, excavation, filling, compaction, and formation works.
- Supervise construction of Granular Sub-Base (GSB), Wet Mix Macadam (WMM), Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM), Bituminous Concrete (BC) and other bituminous layers.
- Supervise PCC/RCC pavement, DLC, PQC, reinforcement, dowel bars, tie bars, joints, curing, and related rigid pavement works.
- Ensure proper levels, line, grade, camber, cross-fall, thickness, and compaction of pavement layers.
- Coordinate with surveyors for setting out and checking levels and alignment.

1. Quality Control

- Ensure construction activities comply with approved specifications and relevant MoRTH, IRC and IS standards, as applicable.
- Coordinate with the laboratory for field and material testing.
- Monitor testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, bituminous materials, and pavement layers.
- Ensure proper sampling, testing, documentation, and maintenance of quality records.
- Identify and rectify defective or non-conforming work.

1. Quantity & Measurement

- Take measurements of completed works and maintain accurate measurement records.
- Prepare and verify Measurement Books (MB), quantity calculations, and work statements.
- Monitor quantities executed against BOQ and identify variations.
- Assist in preparation of RA bills and supporting documents.




- Maintain daily progress reports and site records.

1. Planning & Progress Monitoring

- Plan and coordinate daily and weekly construction activities.
- Monitor manpower, machinery, materials, and productivity at site.
- Ensure work progresses according to the approved project schedule.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and departmental officials.
- Report delays, site constraints, technical issues, and required corrective measures to the Project Manager.

1. Equipment & Resource Management

- Coordinate deployment and utilization of road construction machinery such as:
- Excavators
- Graders
- Rollers
- Pavers
- WMM plants
- Hot Mix Plants
- Concrete batching plants
- Transit mixers
- Concrete pavers
- Water tankers and other equipment
- Ensure optimum utilization of machinery and manpower.
- Coordinate material requirements and ensure timely availability at site.

1. Safety & Environmental Compliance

- Ensure compliance with approved safety procedures and site safety requirements.
- Ensure proper barricading, traffic management, signage, and safe movement of vehicles and machinery.
- Coordinate with the safety team to minimize accidents and unsafe practices.
- Ensure construction activities comply with applicable environmental requirements.

1. Documentation & Coordination

- Maintain site diaries, inspection requests, checklists, test reports, material records, and progress reports.
- Prepare work inspection requests and coordinate inspections with the Engineer/Consultant/Department.
- Maintain records of drawings, revisions, approvals, and technical instructions.
- Coordinate with the client, consultant, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Assist in resolving technical issues arising during construction.

Required Technical Knowledge The candidate should have sound practical knowledge of:




- Flexible pavement construction
- Rigid pavement construction
- Earthwork and embankment
- Subgrade preparation and compaction
- GSB and WMM
- DBM and Bituminous Concrete
- Prime Coat and Tack Coat
- DLC and PQC
- Concrete pavement joints
- Dowel bars and tie bars
- Road drainage and culverts
- Road shoulders and side development
- Surveying and levelling
- Quantity estimation and measurement
- Quality control and field testing
- Reading and interpreting civil/road drawings
- Preparation of DPR/progress reports and site documentation
- MoRTH, IRC and relevant IS specifications

Preferred Skills
- Good knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office/Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Valuable knowledge of road construction methodology and sequencing.
- Strong site supervision and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage manpower, materials, and machinery.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.

Key Performance Areas (KPIs) The Site Engineer will be evaluated based on:
- Quality of executed road works.
- Compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
- Timely completion of assigned activities.
- Accuracy of measurements and quantity records.
- Effective utilization of manpower and machinery.
- Compliance with safety requirements.
- Reduction of rework and construction defects.
- Proper maintenance of site documentation.
- Coordination with client/consultant and project team.

Reporting Reports To: Project Manager / Construction Manager / Resident Engineer

Location: Project Site

Employment Type: Full-Time

Minimum Eligibility

Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in road construction, including practical experience in both Flexible and Rigid Pavement works.

Candidates with experience in highway/major road projects and knowledge of MoRTH/IRC specifications will be preferred.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
