Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Python Developer with 8+ years of hands-on experience in designing, developing, and supporting scalable backend applications and calculation engines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building modular Python services and REST APIs that power complex calculations related to energy, water, materials, embodied carbon, cost modeling, scenario simulations, and sustainability standards.

This role requires strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, API development, performance optimization, testing, and cloud technologies. The candidate should be capable of translating complex business rules, formulas, and dependency models into reliable, maintainable, and high-performing software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python-based calculation services and REST APIs.
- Convert business rules, engineering formulas, and calculation logic into reusable and testable software components.
- Develop modules for energy, water, carbon, materials, baseline standards, scenario analysis, and cost calculations.
- Build reusable libraries, data models, validation frameworks, and configuration-driven components using Python, FastAPI, and Pydantic.
- Develop and optimize PostgreSQL database schemas, queries, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
- Integrate services through secure APIs with proper authentication, validation, and error handling.
- Improve application performance through caching, asynchronous processing, and scalability best practices.
- Create and execute automated unit, integration, and API tests using PyTest.
- Participate in code reviews,



sprint planning, backlog grooming, release management, and production support activities.
- Maintain technical documentation, API specifications, deployment guides, and support runbooks.
- Implement logging, monitoring, auditing, exception handling, and operational support mechanisms.
- Contribute to automation initiatives leveraging AI/GenAI tools and modern engineering practices.

Required Skills & Experience

- 8+ years of experience in Python backend development.
- Strong expertise in Python, OOP concepts, modular architecture, and coding standards.
- Hands-on experience with FastAPI and REST API development.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, SQL optimization, indexing, and database design.
- Experience with Pydantic, PyTest, dependency management, and reusable package development.
- Knowledge of caching, asynchronous programming, and application performance optimization.
- Experience with Azure cloud services, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of secure software development, monitoring, logging, and production support.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Skills

- Experience developing calculation engines, rule engines, pricing engines, financial models, or scientific applications.
- Exposure to sustainability, energy efficiency, embodied carbon, water management, or building science domains.
- Experience with AI, Generative AI, automation tools, or intelligent agents.
