Senior Merchandiser acts as the primary bridge between the retail buyer and the manufacturing supply chain. Operating independently, they manage the entire lifecycle of an order—from initial product development and costing to bulk production monitoring and final shipment—while enforcing compliance with buyer protocols.

Core Responsibilities

- Independent Account & Buyer Management

Serve as the single point of contact for international or domestic buyers.

Translate buyer requirements into actionable instructions for internal teams (design, pattern-making, sourcing, quality, and production).

Conduct critical path updates and lead regular order status meetings with buyer management teams.

- Sampling & Product Development

Manage the sampling calendar to meet exact buyer milestones.

Track development across all sample stages: Proto, Fit, Salesman (SMS), Pre-Production (PP), and Top of Production (TOP).

Coordinate with pattern masters and technical designers to resolve fit issues and speed up approvals.

- Costing & Margin Optimization

Build detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) and Bill of Operations (BOO) cost sheets.

Factor in fabric consumption, trim costs, CMT (Cut,



Make, Trim) rates, wash/finish costs, shipping terms (FOB, CIF, DDP), testing fees, and factory margin.

Negotiate rates with raw material vendors and sub-contractors to hit targeted price points without sacrificing quality.

- Production Tracking & Time & Action (T&A;)

Create and strictly enforce the Time and Action Calendar for each purchase order.

Ensure timely sourcing of raw materials, lab dips, strike-offs, and accessories.

Work closely with production managers and quality assurance teams to track daily line output and prevent bottlenecks.

- Buyer Protocol & Quality Compliance

Enforce factory compliance with specific buyer manuals, safety standards, and Restricted Substance Lists (RSL).

Oversee mandatory garment testing (dimensional stability, colorfastness, fiber composition, pull tests).

Schedule and facilitate inline, pre-final, and Final Random Inspections (FRI) with internal QA teams or third-party agencies (SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas).
