Cryogenic Design & Engineering
Lead the design and engineering of cryogenic equipment, systems, packages, and process plants.
Develop conceptual and detailed designs based on customer/process requirements.
Perform and review engineering calculations related to:
Heat transfer
Thermodynamics
Pressure drop
Fluid flow
Refrigeration/cooling requirements
Equipment sizing
Pressure vessel design
Piping and system design
Thermal insulation and heat leak
Design and review cryogenic systems for applications involving LNG, LOX, LIN, LAR, CO, hydrogen, helium, and other cryogenic/low-temperature fluids, as applicable.
Develop equipment specifications, datasheets, design calculations, and technical documentation.
Review PFDs, P&IDs;, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, piping layouts, and equipment arrangements.
Ensure designs consider operability, maintainability, safety, manufacturability, and lifecycle cost.
1. Cryogenic Equipment
Provide technical leadership in the design and development of equipment such as: Cryogenic storage tanks and vessels
Vacuum-insulated vessels
Cryogenic piping systems
Vaporizers
Heat exchangers
Cold boxes
Cryogenic pumps
Pressure-build-up systems
Gasification systems
LNG/LCNG systems
Cryogenic transfer systems
Vacuum systems
Cryogenic valves and accessories
Skid-mounted cryogenic packages
Process cooling/refrigeration systems
1. R&D; and Recent Product Development
Lead the R&D; roadmap for new cryogenic products and technologies. Identify opportunities for new products based on market and customer requirements.
Convert concepts into engineering prototypes and commercially viable products.
Lead product development from concept design prototype testing validation productionization.
Develop engineering solutions for technically challenging and customized applications.
Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for new products.
Lead design improvements to existing products for performance, reliability, safety, and cost reduction.
Develop and maintain product design standards and engineering specifications.
Protect and develop the organization's technical know-how and intellectual property.
1. Thermal & Cryogenic Analysis
Perform/review thermal calculations and heat-leak analysis. Evaluate insulation systems and vacuum performance.
Analyze cryogenic operating conditions and temperature gradients.
Review thermal contraction/expansion and associated design considerations.
Evaluate material compatibility at cryogenic temperatures.
Optimize system efficiency and minimize heat ingress.
Use analytical tools and simulation software where appropriate.
1. Pressure Vessel & Mechanical Design
Lead design activities for pressure vessels and cryogenic equipment. Review vessel design calculations and mechanical integrity requirements.
Ensure appropriate material selection for low-temperature service.
Review nozzle loads, supports, foundations, lifting arrangements, and transportation considerations.
Ensure designs comply with applicable pressure-vessel and mechanical design codes.
1. Codes, Standards & Compliance
Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable national and international standards, including, as relevant:
ASME Section VIII
ASME B31.3
EN/ISO standards
API standards, where applicable
CGA standards
NFPA requirements, where applicable
PESO / statutory Indian requirements
Customer-specific engineering standards
Applicable cryogenic safety standards
Review code requirements and ensure appropriate documentation for design approval, inspection, testing, and certification.
1. Design Review & Technical Governance
Conduct formal design reviews at various stages of product/project development. Review and approve engineering calculations and drawings within delegated authority.
Establish engineering design standards, checklists, templates, and procedures.
Ensure proper design verification and validation.
Identify technical risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
Ensure configuration and engineering change management is properly controlled.
1. Manufacturing & Project Support
Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, Production, and Project teams. Provide engineering support during fabrication and assembly.
Resolve manufacturing and site-related design issues.
Review deviations and propose technically appropriate solutions.
Support inspection, testing, FAT, commissioning, and performance validation.
Provide technical assistance during installation and commissioning of cryogenic systems.
1. Vendor & Customer Technical Coordination
Evaluate technical offers from equipment and component suppliers. Review vendor drawings, calculations, datasheets, and technical documents.
Participate in technical negotiations with vendors.
Interact with customers, consultants, inspection agencies, and statutory authorities.
Lead technical discussions for customized and complex cryogenic applications.
Provide technical presentations and engineering clarifications to customers.
R&D; / Innovation Responsibilities
Develop an annual R&D; and product-development plan.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, energy efficiency, performance enhancement, and product standardization.
Lead technology evaluation and feasibility studies.
Develop prototypes and test procedures.
Establish product validation and qualification criteria.
Analyze test results and implement design improvements.
Support patent/IP development wherever applicable.
Maintain technical documentation and lessons learned from R&D; activities.
Software & Engineering Tools
Essential / Preferred:
AutoCAD
SolidWorks / Inventor / Creo or equivalent 3D CAD software
ANSYS or equivalent simulation tools
Aspen HYSYS / Aspen Plus or equivalent process simulation tools
MATLAB / engineering calculation tools, where applicable
MS Excel advanced engineering calculations
FEA / CFD tools advantageous
