ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Firmware Engineer to lead the end-to-end implementation of embedded software for our DC fast-charging controllers. In this role, you will bridge hardware and cloud systems - developing real time control logic, safety-critical routines, and vehicle-to-cloud communication protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Firmware Lifecycle: Own the full firmware lifecycle - from requirements and design to implementation, modifications, verification, CI/CD release, and field support.
- Core Controller Development: Design / modify and maintain modular, high-reliability embedded code in C/C++ targeting ARM Cortex-M/A microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, NXP i.MX RT).
- Protocol Implementation: Develop and maintain vehicle-to-charger protocols (ISO 15118, IEC 61851, DIN 70121, HomePlug Green PHY PLC) and OCPP backend connectivity.
- State Machines & Safety: Build robust state machines to handle user authentication, metering, thermal monitoring, fault detection, ground fault interlocks (GFCI), and graceful session termination.
- Hardware Integration: Configure low-level peripheral drivers (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, ADC, GPIO) and interface with power electronics teams to ensure signal integrity and EMI/EMC compliance.
- Connectivity & OTA: Maintain telematics modules (Cellular, Ethernet, Wi-Fi) using secure MQTT/HTTPS/TLS, and build fail-secure, secure Over-The-Air (OTA) update pipelines with automated rollback support.
- Testing & Debugging: Perform board bring-up and debug field issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and CAN/PLC trace tools.

CORE REQUIREMENTS (WHAT YOU BRING DAY 1)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Embedded Development: 5+ years of hands-on production experience in C/C++ for microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M/A).
- RTOS Fundamentals: Solid experience with real-time operating systems (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX systems) for safety-critical hardware.
- Hardware & Lab Skills: Experience reading electrical schematics, board bring-up, and using hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD).
- Peripheral Drivers: Proven capability configuring low-level serial interfaces and communication buses (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, RS-485).
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (OR WHAT YOU CAN LEARN WITH US)
- Prior experience with EV charging equipment (EVSE), power electronics, or automotive ECUs.
- Hands-on exposure to EV charging communication standards (ISO 15118, IEC 61851, DIN 70121, or OCPP).
- Experience with cellular modem integration (Quectel, SIMCom, u-blox) and telematics (MQTT/HTTPS/TLS).
- Familiarity with embedded cybersecurity practices (Secure Boot, Hardware Security Modules, TPMs).
