Job Purpose:
Lead the CMB Centre of Competence section for Chassis Systems, covering steering, suspension, braking, axles and wheels & tyres. Provide end-to-end technical, people, resource and delivery leadership from vehicle targets and concept selection through detailed design, integration, validation, release and launch; ensure safe, compliant, durable and cost-effective chassis performance; and build reusable standards, methods and capability across programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate CoC and CMB business priorities into the Chassis Systems section strategy, technology roadmap, annual objectives, capacity plan and execution priorities.
- Own chassis-system engineering delivery from requirements and target setting through architecture, concept selection, detailed design, integration, validation, release, industrialisation support and launch.
- Govern technical reviews, requirements traceability, design maturity, configuration and engineering change control; approve chassis deliverables within delegated authority.
- Ensure balanced vehicle-level performance for ride, handling, steering, braking, stability, durability, load capability, safety, compliance, cost and weight.
- Plan and deploy people, engineering budget, tools, prototypes, rigs and test resources across programmes; resolve constraints and escalate cross-programme trade-offs to the CoC Head.
- Lead functional leaders and engineers through goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, succession planning, recruitment and targeted capability development.
- Drive cross-functional integration and issue resolution with vehicle programmes, controls, powertrain, body, manufacturing, quality, purchase, service, homologation and suppliers.
- Identify and mitigate technical, interface, supplier and launch risks; maintain escalation discipline for critical safety, compliance, quality, cost and timing concerns.
- Deliver cost, weight, reliability and warranty targets through value engineering, design optimisation,
standardisation, localisation and robust root-cause / corrective-action practices.
- Establish common design guidelines, calculation and test methods, lessons learned and knowledge reuse; report section performance and corrective actions to governance forums.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automobile, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred.
Experience
15 - 20 years in automotive product engineering, including substantial experience in chassis systems and demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams and programme delivery.
Internal and External Interactions
Internal – CoC Head; CMB and vehicle programme leadership; vehicle dynamics, controls, powertrain, body, manufacturing, quality, purchase, finance, service, validation, homologation and HR.
External – Chassis component and system suppliers, engineering service partners, proving grounds, test agencies, technology partners and relevant certification or regulatory bodies.

- Robust domain understanding of steering, suspension, braking, axles and wheels & tyres, including vehicle-level interfaces, loads, failure modes and validation.
- Vehicle dynamics, ride and handling, braking performance, durability, structural loads, functional safety and regulatory compliance.
- Systems engineering, requirements management, design maturity, configuration and engineering change control.
- Automotive product-development lifecycle, design reviews, prototype and rig planning, proving-ground validation, launch readiness and issue resolution.
- Cost and weight optimisation, value engineering, quality planning, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Supplier technical management, sourcing support and engineering-partner governance.
- Portfolio, programme, resource, budget, risk and priority management across concurrent deliverables.
