JOB DESCRIPTIONStaff Nurse – Labour Room

Department: Labour Room / LDR

Designation: Staff Nurse

Reporting To: Nursing In-charge / Nursing Superintendent

Location: ARMC AEGIS Hospital, Perinthalmanna

1. Job Purpose

To provide safe, compassionate and quality nursing care to antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal mothers, assist doctors during labour and delivery, and ensure proper monitoring and documentation throughout the patient's stay in the Labour Room.
1. Key Responsibilities

- Receive and assess patients admitted to the Labour Room/LDR.
- Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate and progress of labour as per clinical instructions.
- Assist doctors during normal vaginal deliveries and other obstetric procedures.
- Prepare the patient, equipment and Labour Room for delivery procedures.
- Assist in emergency obstetric situations and follow established hospital protocols.
- Administer medications, IV fluids and injections as prescribed by the treating doctor.
- Maintain accurate nursing records, monitoring charts, medication records and delivery-related documentation.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of delivery and emergency trays.
- Provide appropriate pre-delivery, intrapartum and immediate post-delivery nursing care.
- Monitor the mother for complications such as excessive bleeding, abnormal vital signs and other signs requiring immediate medical attention.
- Provide immediate care and support to the newborn as directed and coordinate with the Neonatology/NICU team when required.
- Ensure proper identification and safe transfer of mother and newborn after delivery.
- Maintain infection prevention and control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE and aseptic techniques.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection and readiness of Labour Room equipment and work areas.
- Maintain adequate stock of medicines, consumables and emergency supplies and report shortages promptly.
- Participate in emergency drills, clinical training and other hospital quality and safety activities.
- Follow hospital policies,



nursing protocols, NABH standards and statutory requirements.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and provide respectful, professional and compassionate care to patients and attendants.
- Communicate effectively with doctors, nurses and other departments regarding patient condition and treatment.
- Perform any other nursing duties assigned by the Nursing In-charge/Supervisor.

1. Required Qualification

- B.Sc Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
- Additional training in Obstetric Nursing / Labour Room procedures will be an advantage.

1. Experience

- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Labour Room / LDR / Obstetric Nursing preferred.
- Experience in handling normal deliveries, emergency obstetric situations and newborn care will be an added advantage.

- Good knowledge of labour room procedures and obstetric nursing.
- Ability to identify and respond to maternal and fetal emergencies.
- Good clinical observation and patient-monitoring skills.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to work under pressure and during emergency situations.
- Valuable documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Compassionate and patient-centred approach.

1. Shift Requirement

- Willingness to work in rotational shifts, including night shifts, weekends and public holidays as per hospital requirements.

- Compliance with Labour Room protocols and hospital policies.
- Infection prevention and control compliance.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
