Job Summary The Radiographer is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures safely and accurately as prescribed by the Radiologist/Consultant. The role involves preparing patients, operating radiology equipment, maintaining radiation safety standards, ensuring image quality, assisting during procedures and maintaining appropriate records and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Diagnostic Imaging

- Perform radiographic examinations as per physician/radiologist instructions.
- Perform routine X-ray examinations using appropriate techniques and positioning.
- Ensure proper patient positioning and selection of suitable exposure parameters.
- Obtain diagnostic-quality images while minimizing radiation exposure.
- Review images for technical quality and repeat examinations only when clinically/technically necessary.
- Assist with portable/mobile X-ray examinations when required.
- Support CT, MRI, or other imaging services if trained and authorized.

1. Patient Care & Preparation

- Verify patient identity and examination request before the procedure.
- Explain the procedure to patients and provide appropriate instructions.
- Assess patient condition and mobility before positioning.
- Provide appropriate assistance to elderly, pediatric, critically ill and physically challenged patients.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
- Follow appropriate precautions for patients requiring isolation or infection-control measures.

1. Radiation Safety

- Strictly follow radiation protection principles and hospital radiation-safety policies.
- Use appropriate protective equipment such as lead aprons, thyroid shields and barriers wherever applicable.
- Ensure radiation exposure is kept As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).
- Follow approved operating procedures for X-ray equipment.
- Monitor and maintain personal dosimeter/badge requirements as applicable.
- Immediately report radiation-related incidents, equipment abnormalities or safety concerns to the appropriate authority.

1. Equipment Operation & Maintenance

- Operate radiology equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine equipment checks before commencing procedures.




- Identify and report equipment malfunction or abnormal performance.
- Maintain proper care of X-ray machines, accessories and related equipment.
- Coordinate with biomedical/maintenance teams for equipment servicing and preventive maintenance.
- Ensure the imaging room is clean, organized and ready for use.

1. Contrast & Special Procedures

- Assist the Radiologist during contrast-enhanced and special imaging procedures within the scope of training and authorization.
- Verify relevant patient information and required investigations before contrast procedures as per hospital protocol.
- Observe patients for any immediate adverse reaction and promptly inform the Radiologist/medical team.
- Ensure emergency equipment is readily available during procedures involving contrast where required.

1. Infection Prevention & Control

- Follow hospital infection prevention and control policies.
- Clean and disinfect equipment and patient-contact surfaces appropriately.
- Follow hand hygiene and standard precautions.
- Ensure appropriate disposal of biomedical waste.
- Follow additional precautions for infectious or high-risk patients.

1. Documentation & Records

- Maintain accurate radiology examination records.
- Ensure correct patient identification and examination details in the radiology information system/register.
- Record procedures, exposure details and other information as required by hospital policy.
- Ensure images are properly stored/transferred through the hospital's PACS/RIS or applicable system.
- Maintain equipment, quality-control and radiation-safety records as applicable.

1. Emergency & On-Call Responsibilities

- Provide radiographic services for emergency and trauma patients.
- Perform portable X-rays for ICU, emergency and other critical-care areas when required.
- Respond promptly to urgent imaging requests.
- Participate in rotational shifts, night duties and on-call duties as required.

1. Quality & NABH Compliance

- Follow hospital policies, SOPs and departmental protocols.
- Participate in quality assurance and image-quality improvement activities.




- Support compliance with applicable NABH standards and statutory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits, training programmes and competency assessments.
- Report incidents, near misses and equipment-related issues through the appropriate reporting system.
- Maintain professional ethics and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Radiography / Radiology & Imaging Technology / Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Valid registration/licence as applicable under prevailing regulations.
- Additional certification/training in CT, MRI or other modalities is an advantage.
