Python Backend Consultant (Data Engineering & Data Pipelines)

Job Summary

BCI is seeking a skilled contract Python Backend Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and data pipelines. **Please note: This will be a 6-12 month contract.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, integrating data from multiple sources, and developing reliable, high-performance backend services that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives. This role requires expertise in Python, cloud technologies, databases, API development, and modern data engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
- Develop backend services and APIs using Python-based frameworks.
- Integrate data from databases, third-party APIs, cloud storage, and enterprise applications.
- Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot failures, and implement solutions to improve reliability.
- Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and automated testing processes.
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
- Optimize database queries and data models for efficient processing and retrieval.
- Deploy and maintain applications and pipelines in cloud environments.
- Create technical documentation,



maintain coding standards, and best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years + of experience in Python backend development.
- Strong proficiency in hands on development with Python and object-oriented programming.
- Bash/Shell Scripting
- Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB.
- Experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas and NumPy.
- RESTful API development using FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Solid troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (Preferred), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
