Role purpose

Lead packaging development and continuous improvement for the companys beauty and personal-care portfolio across domestic and export markets. The role is responsible for delivering packaging that meets product, quality, brand, production and commercial requirements, from the initial brief through stable commercial manufacture.

The position requires an experienced technical professional who can independently evaluate options, guide cross-functional teams, manage suppliers and resolve complex packaging problems.

Key responsibilities

1. Lead the development of primary, secondary and transit packaging for skincare, haircare, body care, perfumes and related product categories.
2. Translate product and brand briefs into technically sound packaging solutions, considering compatibility, functionality, appearance, manufacturability, transportation and cost.
3. Review and approve packaging concepts, materials, components, specifications, drawings, samples and bills of materials within the companys approval process.
4. Define testing requirements and work with R&D; and Quality to evaluate compatibility, leakage, performance and transport suitability. Ensure issues are resolved before commercial approval.
5. Lead factory trials and commercialisation with Production and Engineering. Resolve filling, sealing, capping, labelling, coding,



cartoning and line-efficiency issues.
6. Build and assess the packaging supplier base. Guide supplier qualification, sample development, tooling decisions, quality improvement and alternate-source development in coordination with Procurement and Quality.
7. Lead investigations into packaging defects, consumer complaints, transit damage, supplier failures and production rejections; ensure effective corrective actions.
8. Drive packaging value engineering and cost improvement while protecting product quality, consumer experience and brand presentation.
9. Partner with Design, Marketing and Regulatory/Quality teams on artwork feasibility, decoration, print proofs and export-market pack requirements. Coordinate technical execution while the designated Regulatory/Quality team retains responsibility for compliance approval.
10. Establish and maintain robust packaging specifications, approved samples, documentation, change control and project review practices.
11. Guide junior packaging staff or cross-functional project teams, where applicable, and provide clear technical recommendations to senior management on packaging decisions, risks and investments.
12. Track development timelines and ensure packaging readiness supports agreed product launch and production schedules.

Candidate profile

- Minimum 15 years of relevant skilled experience,



including substantial responsibility for packaging development in beauty and personal care, cosmetics, fragrance or a closely related FMCG manufacturing environment.
- Degree or Diploma in Packaging Technology, Packaging Science, Plastics/Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred. Candidates with other qualifications and extensive, directly relevant packaging development experience will also be considered.
- Deep practical knowledge of packaging materials and formats, including plastic and glass containers, tubes, pumps, closures, labels, cartons and corrugated packaging.
- Strong understanding of packaging decoration and printing, component specifications, testing, tooling, supplier development and production processes.
- Demonstrated record of leading multiple packaging projects from concept and sampling through testing, factory trials and commercial production.
- Ability to diagnose technical failures, make commercially sound decisions and influence teams across R&D;, Quality, Procurement, Production and Design.

• Strong documentation, project management, communication and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred experience

- Fragrance packaging development, including bottles, pumps, caps and premium cartons.
- Packaging for multiple export markets.
- Packaging material masters, bills of materials and change control in SAP or another ERP system.

• Measurable achievements in cost reduction, defect reduction, alternate sourcing or production efficiency.
