Role Purpose:
To ensure that all recent products are developed, validated, and launched in accordance with quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.
The NPD Quality function acts as the voice of quality during product design, development, prototyping, and industrialization to ensure robust risk management, compliance, and smooth transition to mass production.
Key Skills & Competencies:
1. Strong understanding of quality tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, Control Plans, DOE, etc.
2. Knowledge of product design, manufacturing processes, and engineering fundamentals.
3. Skilled in problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
4. Excellent communication skills to work cross-functionally, with Suppliers & Customers,
5. Data-driven decision-making and analytical skills.
6. Familiarity with CAD drawings, GD&T;, and metrology (depending on industry).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality assurance during complete development phase from RFQ to Launch.
2. Lead Design Reviews throughout the product development life cycle.
3. Review & support the creation of DFMEA & PFMEA
4. Review & Support the creation of Controls plan & Manufacturing documents
5. Ensure compliance with internal quality standards,
Customer Quality Standards and industry-specific regulations ( IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, AIAG standards, etc.).
6. Develop NPD Quality Plans, including risk assessments, verification strategies, and control plans etc.
7. Review and approve product design specifications, drawings, material specifications, and design changes.
8. Oversee pilot runs, engineering builds, and pre-production builds to ensure quality readiness.
9. Support creation of measurement systems, including MSA studies, gauge selection, and validation.
10. Quality representative for Customers throughout development cycle and lead Customer audits & PPAP submission.
11. Deploy Process Control Plans, critical process parameters, and quality gates for production trials.
12. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance NPD quality systems.
13. Ensure process validation and capability studies (Cp, Cpk, GR&R;) meet standards.
14. Lead root-cause analysis for NPD-related issues using tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, etc.
15. Ensure lessons learned are captured and integrated into future design and process standards.
