About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Node.js Backend Intern who has a basic understanding of backend development, PostgreSQL databases, REST APIs, and AI/LLM integrations.

As an intern, you will work closely with our backend development team on real-world projects involving Node.js, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and OpenAI models. You will get hands-on experience building backend services, working with databases, debugging APIs, and integrating AI capabilities into backend applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain backend APIs using Node.js.
- Work with Express.js / LoopBack / similar Node.js frameworks.
- Design and work with REST APIs and understand request/response flows.
- Write SQL queries and perform CRUD operations using PostgreSQL.
- Work with database relationships, joins, indexes, and basic query optimization.
- Integrate OpenAI APIs/models into Node.js backend applications.
- Understand how to send prompts, process model responses, and integrate AI-generated output into application workflows.
- Work with JSON data and handle API responses/errors effectively.
- Debug backend issues and troubleshoot API and database-related problems.
- Write clean, readable, and maintainable JavaScript/TypeScript code.
- Work with Git for version control and follow standard branching and development practices.
- Collaborate with senior developers and learn existing project architecture and coding standards.
- Test APIs using tools such as Postman or similar API testing tools.
- Document APIs, database changes, and implementation details when required.

Required Skills

- Basic understanding of Node.js and backend development.
- Understanding of asynchronous programming, Promises, and async/await.
- Basic knowledge of REST API development.
- Familiarity with npm and Node.js packages.
- Basic understanding of Express.js or another Node.js backend framework.



PostgreSQL / SQL
- Basic to intermediate understanding of PostgreSQL.
- Comfortable writing:
- SELECT , INSERT , UPDATE , DELETE , JOIN , GROUP BY , ORDER BY, WHERE
- Understanding of primary keys, foreign keys, and database relationships.
- Basic understanding of database normalization and indexing.

OpenAI / AI Integration
- Basic understanding of OpenAI APIs/models.
- Understanding of how APIs are integrated into a Node.js backend. Ability to work with prompts and structured JSON responses. Basic understanding of concepts such as:
- LLMs
- Tokens
- Prompt engineering
- System/user prompts
- Structured outputs
- API response handling
- Willingness to learn and experiment with AI-based backend functionality. General Development Skills
- Basic knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub/Bitbucket.
- Basic debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Positive understanding of JSON.
- Familiarity with Postman or similar API testing tools.

Good to Have

- Experience with TypeScript.
- Experience with LoopBack.js or Express.js.
- Experience building a small Node.js REST API project.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL in a real project.
- Previous experience integrating OpenAI or other LLM APIs.
- Basic knowledge of authentication such as JWT.
- Understanding of Docker and basic deployment concepts.
- Familiarity with AWS or any cloud platform.
- Understanding of ORM/query-builder tools such as Sequelize, Prisma, TypeORM, or similar.
