: Motor Design Engineer – Electromagnetics

Company: Attron Automotive Private Limited

Location: Pune

Experience: 0 to 2 years

Department: Motor Design / Product Development

Role Type: Full-time

About the Role

Attron Automotive is looking for a Motor Design Engineer – Electromagnetics with strong fundamentals in electrical machines, electromagnetics, motor performance, and analytical design.

The role is suitable for freshers or early-career engineers who have a solid interest in electric motor design and are willing to work on PMSM / BLDC / IPM motor design, electromagnetic simulations, performance calculations, validation, and design improvement.

We are looking for someone who can think from first principles, understand motor behaviour, and support the design of high-performance electric motors for EV and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Support electromagnetic design of PMSM / BLDC / IPM motors.
- Work on motor sizing, torque-speed characteristics, back-EMF, flux linkage, inductance, current density, losses, and efficiency estimation.
- Create and analyze motor models using tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, Motor-CAD, JMAG, FEMM, MATLAB, or equivalent.
- Perform electromagnetic simulations and support thermal / performance correlation.
- Analyze design parameters such as slot-pole combination, winding configuration, magnet sizing, air gap, stack length, turns, wire size, and current loading.
- Support motor performance studies including torque, power, efficiency, cogging torque, torque ripple, back-EMF waveform, and field weakening capability.
- Work with mechanical design, controller, testing, and production teams to convert motor design into manufacturable products.
- Support motor testing, dyno validation, efficiency mapping,

parameter extraction, and performance comparison against simulation.
- Prepare design calculations, simulation reports, technical documentation, and design review notes.
- Support root-cause analysis for performance gaps between simulation, testing, and field data.
- Help improve existing motor designs for performance, cost, manufacturability, thermal behaviour, and reliability.

Required Skills
- Strong fundamentals in electrical machines and electromagnetics.
- Good understanding of PMSM / BLDC motor working principles.
- Understanding of torque production, back-EMF, flux linkage, inductance, losses, efficiency, and field weakening.
- Basic knowledge of motor windings, slot-pole combinations, magnets, laminations, air gap, and magnetic circuits.
- Exposure to electromagnetic simulation tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, Motor-CAD, JMAG, FEMM, or equivalent.
- Ability to perform basic analytical calculations before relying only on simulation.
- Good understanding of engineering mathematics, physics, and electrical fundamentals.
- Ability to document calculations, assumptions, simulation setup, and results clearly.
- Willingness to work with testing, validation, mechanical design, and controller teams.

Preferred Skills
- Academic project, internship, or hands-on work related to electric motor design.
- Exposure to PMSM, BLDC, IPM, SPM,

induction motor, or reluctance motor design.
- Basic knowledge of MATLAB / Simulink, Python, or Excel-based engineering calculations.
- Understanding of motor testing, dyno testing, back-EMF testing, inductance measurement, and efficiency mapping.
- Basic understanding of thermal behaviour, cooling, losses, and motor duty cycles.
- Knowledge of EV powertrain requirements will be an added advantage.
- Exposure to CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or CATIA will be useful but is not the primary requirement.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate should be someone who:
- Has strong fundamentals in electrical machines.
- Can think from first principles and not only depend on software.
- Is genuinely interested in motor design and EV powertrains.
- Can connect simulation results with real-world test data.
- Is comfortable doing calculations, documentation, and design iterations.
- Can work closely with mechanical, controller, production, and testing teams.
- Is eager to learn and grow into a strong electric motor design engineer.

What We Are Not Looking For
- Someone who only knows simulation software but does not understand motor fundamentals.
- Someone who cannot explain the physical meaning of motor parameters.
- Someone who is not comfortable with calculations and documentation.
- Someone looking only for a generic electrical engineering role.
- Someone who is not willing to work with testing and validation feedback.
