We have a rare opportunity for an experienced and highly skilled Mid-Level Python Backend Engineer to join an established back end team, based in either Ahmedabad or Kerala - UK hours .

Overview In this role, you will be embedded full-time within a cross-functional product squad (Product Owner/BA, Frontend Developer, and QA) to build products on top of their Python service estate and telephony platform. This role is ideal for an individual contributor who thrives in an existing service estate, writes clean, well-tested Python code , and utilises modern AI-assisted tools to deliver features with care and precision.

Key Responsibilities

- Write unit and integration tests using Pytest alongside feature development , and add tests around existing untested code.
- ·Additionally, work within their existing mixed testing stack, which includes Django tests, unittest, and a smaller amount of Pytest , ensuring new tests align with current patterns and frameworks.
- Build and maintain REST APIs and business logic across our Python service estate (CRM/Core, Services, Queues, Ledger, Credit Control, and their customer platform backend).
- Navigate an existing codebase to trace bugs across service boundaries , resolve technical debt, and make changes without causing collateral damage.
- Utilise daily agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to write real features, while critically reviewing all AI outputs before shipping.




- Participate in handling production environment incidents with care and precision, particularly regarding billing, ledger, and credit control logic.
- Work autonomously within two-week sprints, delivering incremental pull requests and flagging blockers early.
- Maintain strong async communication through written documentation and actively incorporate feedback from code reviews.

Minimum Requirements / Must Haves

- Minimum 3–5 years of commercial backend development experience.
- Strong Python foundation with expertise in readable code, type hints, and dataclasses or Pydantic.
- Solid relational database experience with confident SQL skills and ORM experience ( SQLAlchemy preferred ; Django ORM acceptable).
- Clear understanding of database transaction boundaries and REST API design.
- Core testing proficiency in Pytest , including fixtures, mocking, and test data setup.
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools for feature development, with the ability to critically evaluate and explain AI output.
- Familiarity with basic event-driven queue/messaging concepts and cloud platform exposure (GCP or AWS).
- Solid written English communication skills for asynchronous updates.
- Ability to cover working hours aligned with 11:00-20:00 IST for overlap with UK schedules.

Preferred Experience

- Previous experience in Telecoms, VoIP, or SIP domain exposure.
- Experience with billing, subscription, payment systems, or credit control logic.
- Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, BigQuery).
- Experience working with analytics SQL or BigQuery.
