Job summary
We are looking for an MEP Site Engineer to coordinate mechanical, electrical and plumbing layouts across vendors, consultants, architects and civil teams. The engineer will drive preparation and closure of coordinated services drawings, resolve site interface issues and monitor execution against approved drawings, quality requirements and project schedules.
Role & responsibilities
- Collect and review vendor shop drawings against the latest architectural, structural and consultant drawings. Coordinate combined services layouts, sections and reflected ceiling plans before installation.
- Identify and track clashes between HVAC services, electrical cable trays and conduits, plumbing and drainage, firefighting, ELV systems and building elements. Obtain consultant-approved resolutions and communicate revisions to every affected vendor.
- Coordinate routes, levels, slopes, equipment positions, shafts, sleeves, openings, supports and access panels. Check headroom and space for insulation, operation, servicing and equipment replacement.
- Conduct vendor coordination meetings, issue minutes with owners and target dates, and follow up on pending drawings, technical queries, approvals, materials and work fronts.
- Plan the installation sequence with civil, interior and ceiling contractors to prevent clashes, delays and rework. Check coordinated locations of lights, fans, AC units, detectors, sprinklers and other ceiling services.
Site delivery and documentation
- Inspect installations against approved drawings, specifications and material submittals. Record deviations, raise inspection requests and follow up on corrective work before concealment or ceiling closure.
- Maintain drawing and revision registers, requests for information, clash and action logs, site photographs and weekly progress reports.
Escalate unresolved issues with their schedule and cost impact.
- Check site quantities and flag scope gaps, vendor interface gaps and proposed variations to the Project Manager before work proceeds. Support measurement verification without independently authorising commercial changes.
- Coordinate testing, commissioning and integrated system checks with specialist vendors and consultants. Track snags and collect test records, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals and warranties for handover.
- Coordinate safe work practices and required permits with the site team. Obtain the relevant consultants approval for design changes and the structural engineers clearance before structural cutting or coring.
Preferred candidate profile
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a relevant engineering diploma with solid building MEP coordination experience.
- 36 years of relevant site experience, including hands-on coordination between multiple MEP vendors and civil or architectural teams.
- Ability to read and coordinate HVAC, electrical, plumbing, drainage and firefighting drawings, and understand interfaces with ELV systems.
- Proficiency in relevant drawing review, drafting, spreadsheet and project reporting software. Ability to prepare clear drawing mark-ups and track revisions.
- Strong follow-up, practical problem-solving and written documentation skills. Ability to communicate with site teams in Tamil and prepare technical correspondence in English.
- Hospital, institutional or multistorey building experience preferred. BIM coordination and testing and commissioning exposure are added advantages.
