ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Leather Goods Merchandiser who can manage the order lifecycle end-to-end — from the initial buyer inquiry through costing, sampling, production, quality coordination, documentation, and final shipment.
The role will act as the key link between buyers, design, sampling, sourcing, production, and quality teams , ensuring that the right product is developed and delivered at the right cost, quality, and timeline .
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable managing the technical and commercial details of leather bags, wallets, and accessories , including leather, hardware, trims, construction, sampling, costing, and factory production timelines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Buyer & Order Management
· Manage buyer inquiries, orders, and communication from development to shipment.
· Understand buyer requirements, specifications, timelines, and quality expectations.
· Coordinate approvals for samples, materials, colours, trims, packaging, and final products.
· Provide regular and accurate order status updates to buyers.
1. Costing & Commercial Coordination
· Prepare and/or verify product costings for leather goods. · Check leather consumption, material consumption, hardware, trims, labour, packaging, and other production costs .
· Coordinate with sourcing and production teams to ensure cost competitiveness.
· Monitor costing against target margins and identify opportunities for cost optimisation.
1. Sampling & Product Development
· Coordinate proto, development, salesman, size-set, pre-production, and other required samples. · Work closely with design and technical teams to interpret tech packs, specifications, measurements, construction details, and material requirements .
· Follow up on sample comments and ensure timely implementation of buyer feedback.
· Provide practical inputs on leather, materials, trims, hardware, construction, and manufacturability.
1. Production Follow-up
· Prepare and maintain TNA (Time & Action) plans for all orders. · Monitor production milestones from raw material procurement through cutting, stitching, finishing, packing, and shipment.
· Coordinate with factory teams to identify and resolve production delays.
· Track production against planned delivery dates and proactively escalate risks.
1. Quality Coordination
· Coordinate with QA/QC teams to ensure products meet buyer specifications and quality standards. · Follow up on pre-production and production quality issues.
· Ensure corrective actions are implemented within agreed timelines.
· Maintain consistency between approved samples and bulk production.
1. Sourcing & Material Coordination
· Coordinate sourcing of leather, lining, hardware, zippers, buckles, trims, packaging, and other components . · Work with both domestic and international suppliers, including Chinese sourcing.
· Follow up on material development, availability, lead times, quality, and pricing.
1. Documentation & Tracking
· Maintain accurate order trackers, costing sheets, TNA, sample status, production status, and shipment records. · Ensure all buyer and production documentation is updated and readily available.
· Coordinate with commercial/export teams for shipment-related documentation and timelines.
1. Cross-Functional Coordination
· Work closely with Design, Sampling, Production, Sourcing, QA, Finance, and Export/Logistics teams . · Ensure smooth flow of information from buyer requirements to the production floor.
· Proactively identify bottlenecks and coordinate solutions.
REQUIREMENTS
· 4+ years of merchandising experience in leather goods, bags, wallets, accessories, or a related soft-goods manufacturing/export environment.
· Strong understanding of the complete leather-goods product lifecycle — materials, construction, sampling, costing, production, finishing, and shipment.
· Good understanding of leather consumption and product costing .
· Experience handling buyers and interpreting tech packs, specifications, measurements, and construction details .
· Strong experience in preparing and managing TNA and production follow-ups .
· Ability to manage multiple buyers, styles, and orders simultaneously.
· Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-up discipline.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficient in MS Excel and comfortable working with ERP/order-management systems.
· Exposure to international export markets, particularly Europe and USA , and understanding of international buyer expectations.
· Experience with both domestic and imported sourcing , including Chinese suppliers.
· Good product and design sensibility, with the ability to contribute ideas on materials, trims, hardware, construction, functionality, and cost optimisation .
· Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned orders.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE – FIRST 6 MONTHS
Within the first six months, the successful candidate should be able to:
· Independently manage a portfolio of buyers, styles, and orders with minimal supervision.
· Deliver sampling and production milestones on time .
· Ensure shipments are dispatched as per agreed delivery schedules.
· Maintain accurate TNA, costing, order, and production documentation .
· Deliver commercially viable costings that protect margins while remaining competitive.
· Minimise production delays through proactive follow-up and early escalation.
· Build strong buyer relationships through clear, timely, and reliable communication .
· Develop robust coordination with sourcing, sampling, production, and quality teams.
· Contribute practical product and costing inputs that improve quality, manufacturability, and profitability .
· Ability to identify and onboard new buyers/business opportunities will be an added advantage.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, commercially aware, technically strong, and highly organised — someone who doesn’t simply track orders but takes ownership of getting the product successfully from buyer inquiry → development → costing → sampling → production → quality → shipment .
Added Advantage: Experience with established international brands, leather goods export houses, private-label programs, or new buyer/business development.
