Job Summary

BM Hospital, Nanganallur is seeking a qualified and responsible Medical Officer to provide day-to-day clinical care for patients attending the hospital.

The Medical Officer will be responsible for initial patient assessment, routine medical management, inpatient monitoring, emergency stabilization, coordination with consultants, clinical documentation, and ensuring continuity of patient care.

The Medical Officer is expected to maintain high standards of medical ethics, patient safety, communication and professional conduct.

Key Responsibilities1. Patient Assessment & Clinical Care

- Assess patients presenting to the hospital and obtain appropriate medical history.
- Perform clinical examination and document findings.
- Arrive at a provisional diagnosis and initiate appropriate treatment within the scope of practice.
- Identify patients requiring specialist consultation, admission, investigations or emergency intervention.
- Review investigation reports and communicate significant findings to the treating consultant.
- Monitor response to treatment and escalate concerns appropriately.

1. Inpatient Management

- Conduct regular ward rounds and review admitted patients.
- Monitor vital parameters, clinical condition and treatment progress.
- Follow treatment plans prescribed by consultants.
- Update consultants regarding significant clinical changes.
- Review medications, investigations and treatment orders.
- Ensure timely implementation of consultant instructions.
- Coordinate discharge planning and preparation of discharge summaries when required.

1. Emergency & Casualty Management

- Perform initial assessment and stabilization of emergency patients.
- Recognize medical and surgical emergencies promptly.
- Initiate basic emergency management including airway, breathing and circulation support.
- Perform CPR and participate in resuscitation when required.
- Coordinate urgent consultant review, investigations, transfer or referral when necessary.
- Maintain proper documentation of emergency treatment provided.

1. Consultant Coordination

- Communicate effectively with visiting and resident consultants.
- Present patient history, examination findings, investigation results and clinical progress clearly.
- Ensure consultant instructions are accurately documented and implemented.
- Coordinate referrals between departments whenever required.

1. Clinical Documentation

Maintain complete, accurate and timely documentation including:
- Patient history and examination
- Progress notes
- Doctor orders
- Medication orders
- Investigation requests
- Procedure notes
- Referral notes
- Emergency notes
- Discharge documentation
- Transfer notes
- Consent-related documentation where applicable





All documentation must comply with hospital protocols and medico-legal requirements.
1. Patient & Family Communication

- Explain the patient's clinical condition and treatment plan in understandable language within the Medical Officer's scope of responsibility.
- Maintain professional and compassionate communication with patients and attendants.
- Escalate discussions regarding major procedures, prognosis or complex treatment decisions to the respective consultant.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

1. Medication & Treatment Safety

- Prescribe and administer medications appropriately within permitted clinical responsibilities.
- Check for medication allergies and contraindications.
- Ensure correct dosage and route of administration.
- Report suspected adverse drug reactions.
- Coordinate with nursing and pharmacy teams regarding treatment orders.

1. Procedures

Depending on qualification, competency and hospital authorization, the Medical Officer may be required to perform or assist with procedures such as:
- IV cannulation
- Blood sampling
- Urinary catheterization
- Ryle's tube insertion
- Nebulization
- Oxygen administration
- Wound assessment and basic dressing
- Suturing of minor wounds
- ECG assessment
- Basic airway management
- CPR and emergency resuscitation

1. Infection Control & Patient Safety

- Follow hospital infection-control protocols.
- Maintain proper hand hygiene and universal precautions.
- Follow biomedical waste-management protocols.
- Report needle-stick injuries, exposure incidents and infection-control concerns promptly.
- Participate in patient-safety initiatives and incident reporting.

1. Hospital Operations

- Coordinate closely with nurses, consultants, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology and administrative teams.
- Assist in smooth functioning of OP, inpatient and emergency services.
- Attend duty handovers punctually and provide complete clinical handover to the incoming doctor.
- Remain available during assigned duty hours.
- Ensure that no critically ill or unstable patient is left without appropriate medical supervision or handover.

1. Medico-Legal Responsibilities

- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Ensure proper documentation of medico-legal cases.
- Follow hospital protocols for consent, referral, transfer and death documentation.
- Immediately escalate medico-legal or sensitive clinical matters to the Medical Director / Administrator.

1. Quality & Compliance

- Follow clinical protocols, SOPs and hospital policies.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality-improvement activities.
- Attend internal training,



CME programmes and emergency drills.
- Assist in maintaining standards required for hospital accreditation and statutory compliance.

Qualification

Essential:

- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- Valid registration with the appropriate State Medical Council / National Medical Commission as applicable.

Preferred:

- Previous experience in a hospital, casualty, emergency department, ICU or general medicine setting.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification will be an added advantage.

Experience
- Fresh MBBS graduates with appropriate clinical competence may apply.
- 1–3 years of hospital experience preferred.

Position Objective The primary objective of the Medical Officer at BM Hospital, Nanganallur is to provide safe, timely and responsible first-line medical care while ensuring seamless coordination between patients, consultants, nurses and hospital departments. The Medical Officer should function as a reliable clinical link between the patient and the treating consultant and contribute to maintaining high standards of patient care throughout the hospital.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
