Qualification: Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety or relevant discipline; Diploma/PG qualification in Industrial Safety preferred.
Certifications: NEBOSH / IOSH / ADIS / ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 Lead Auditor preferred.
To lead and govern the Setting, Health & Safety function across India operations, ensuring statutory compliance, effective risk management, emergency preparedness, safe working practices and continuous improvement in EHS performance.
The EHS Manager will establish and drive a strong proactive safety culture, ensuring that employees, residents/customers, contractors, vendors and other stakeholders operate in a safe and compliant environment.
Key Responsibilities A. EHS Governance & Strategy
Develop, implement and continuously improve the organisation's EHS framework, policies, SOPs and guidelines.
Establish annual EHS objectives, targets, KPIs and action plans.
Standardise EHS practices across all sites/locations.
Act as the central point of contact for EHS matters across India operations.
Provide EHS guidance to senior management and operational teams.
B. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with all applicable Indian EHS legislation, rules, regulations and local authority requirements.
C. Risk Assessment & Safety Management
Conduct and review HIRA, JSA/JHA and risk assessments for routine and non-routine activities.
Identify critical/high-risk activities and establish appropriate controls.
Implement and monitor Permit-to-Work systems.
Ensure compliance for: Work at height
Hot work
Confined space
Electrical work
Excavation
Lifting operations
LOTO
Work involving contractors/vendors
Ensure appropriate PPE and safety equipment are available and effectively used.
Maintain statutory licences, approvals, certificates, registers and compliance records.
Track regulatory changes and ensure timely implementation.
Coordinate with statutory authorities, consultants and auditors wherever required.
Ensure timely closure of statutory and internal audit observations.
Indian EHS responsibilities should be mapped to the applicable central and state requirements, including occupational safety, environmental and workplace regulations.
D. Fire & Life Safety / Emergency Preparedness
Develop and maintain emergency response and disaster-management plans.
Ensure regular inspection/testing of fire protection and life-safety systems.
Conduct mock drills and emergency response exercises.
Evaluate emergency preparedness for fire, medical emergencies, electrical incidents, flooding, chemical incidents and other foreseeable emergencies.
Coordinate with Fire Brigade, Police, hospitals and other emergency agencies where required.
Track and close observations arising from fire/life-safety audits.
E. Incident & Accident Management
Lead investigation of accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and EHS incidents.
Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
Ensure timely incident reporting and CAPA closure.
Maintain incident statistics and identify recurring trends.
Drive initiatives to prevent recurrence and improve safety performance.
F. Contractor & Vendor EHS Management
Establish EHS requirements for all contractors and vendors.
Ensure contractor onboarding includes safety induction and competency verification.
Monitor contractor compliance through inspections and audits.
Ensure contractors provide trained manpower, PPE, equipment certifications and required documentation.
Take appropriate action against repeated or serious safety violations.
Stop unsafe work where there is an immediate risk to life or property.
Contractor safety, permit systems, audits and emergency preparedness are consistently identified as core responsibilities in current Indian EHS managerial roles.
G. Training & Safety Culture
Develop an annual EHS training calendar.
Conduct/coordinate training on: Fire safety
First aid
Electrical safety
Work at height
PPE
Emergency response
Manual handling
Contractor safety
Incident reporting
Behavior-based safety
Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns.
Promote a proactive reporting culture for near misses and unsafe conditions.
