Job Purpose

ONUS Robotic Hospitals is looking for an experienced and responsible Head Nurse to lead day-to-day nursing operations, maintain high standards of patient care, supervise nursing staff, ensure adherence to clinical protocols, and coordinate effectively with doctors, administration, ICU, OT, emergency, and inpatient departments.

The Head Nurse will be accountable for nursing quality, staff discipline, patient safety, shift management, documentation, infection control, medication safety, and smooth functioning of assigned clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities1. Nursing Operations Management

Supervise the overall functioning of nursing services in the assigned department or floor.

Responsibilities include

- Ensure adequate nurse deployment in every shift
- Conduct shift handovers
- Monitor patient care activities
- Ensure timely execution of doctors' orders
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Ensure proper nursing documentation
- Escalate clinical or operational issues immediately
- Maintain smooth coordination between nursing and other departments

1. Patient Care & Safety

Ensure safe, compassionate, and protocol-based nursing care for all patients.

Monitor

- Vital signs
- Medication administration
- IV fluids
- Injections
- Patient monitoring
- Fall prevention
- Pressure sore prevention
- Pain management support
- Patient identification
- Pre- and post-operative care
- Early recognition of deterioration

Any significant change in patient condition must be immediately communicated to the treating doctor.
1. Staff Supervision

Supervise Staff Nurses, Junior Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and ward support staff.

Responsibilities include

- Assign duties and patient responsibilities
- Monitor staff performance
- Ensure punctuality and discipline
- Check grooming and uniform standards
- Provide on-the-job guidance
- Correct unsafe practices
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies

1. Duty Roster & Manpower Planning

Prepare and manage nursing duty rosters.

Ensure

- Proper staffing for morning, evening, and night shifts
- Adequate staffing during high occupancy
- Appropriate skill mix in each shift
- Replacement planning for absenteeism and leave
- Fair allocation of duties
- Minimum disruption to patient care

1. Shift Handover

Ensure proper structured handover between nursing shifts.

Handover should include

- Patient condition
- Diagnosis
- Pending investigations
- Medication status
- Procedures planned
- Critical patients
- Post-operative patients
- Pending doctor instructions
- High-risk cases

No critical information should be missed during shift changes.
1. Medication Safety

Ensure safe medication practices.

Monitor

- Correct patient
- Correct drug
- Correct dose
- Correct route
- Correct time
- Proper documentation
- Allergy status
- High-alert medications
- Narcotic/control drug documentation where applicable
- Storage of medicines

Report medication errors or near misses immediately according to hospital policy.
1. Infection Prevention & Control





Ensure strict compliance with infection-control standards.

Responsibilities include

- Hand hygiene
- PPE compliance
- Isolation precautions
- Biomedical waste segregation
- IV line care
- Catheter care
- Surgical wound care
- Prevention of hospital-acquired infections
- Environmental cleanliness monitoring

Work closely with the Infection Control Nurse/Committee.
1. OT, ICU & Emergency Coordination

Coordinate nursing requirements for critical areas such as:
- ICU
- Emergency
- Operation Theatre
- Recovery
- Wards

Ensure timely transfer and preparation of patients for surgeries, procedures, investigations, and critical care.
1. Pre-Operative & Post-Operative Nursing

For surgical patients, ensure:
- Pre-operative checklist completion
- Consent confirmation
- Fasting status
- Investigation availability
- Surgical-site preparation
- Medication instructions
- Patient identification
- Secure OT transfer

After surgery, ensure:
- Proper recovery monitoring
- Pain assessment
- Neurovascular checks where applicable
- Wound monitoring
- Drain monitoring
- Early mobilisation as advised
- Discharge education

1. Nursing Documentation

Ensure all nursing records are accurate, complete, timely, and legible.

Monitor

- Vital charts
- Medication charts
- Intake/output
- Nursing notes
- Procedure records
- Consent documentation
- Handover documentation
- Discharge instructions
- Incident reports

1. Patient & Attender Communication

Ensure nursing staff communicate respectfully and professionally with patients and attendants.

The Head Nurse should

- Address nursing-related complaints
- Explain routine care processes
- Coordinate with doctors where clinical clarification is needed
- Escalate unresolved complaints
- Ensure dignity and privacy of patients

1. Clinical Quality Audits

Conduct regular audits related to:
- Medication errors
- Nursing documentation
- Infection control
- Patient falls
- Pressure injuries
- IV complications
- Catheter-associated issues
- Nursing response time
- Patient identification
- Ward cleanliness

Prepare corrective actions where gaps are found.
1. Emergency Preparedness

Ensure nursing staff are trained and ready for emergencies.

Monitor competency in

- BLS
- CPR
- Code Blue
- Emergency drug handling
- Crash cart usage
- Oxygen administration
- Patient transfer
- Emergency escalation protocols

Crash carts and emergency equipment should be checked according to hospital policy.
1. Training & Development

Conduct and coordinate regular nursing training.

Topics may include

- Patient safety
- Infection control
- Medication safety
- Emergency response
- Documentation

- Pre- and post-operative care
- Biomedical waste management
- Equipment handling

New nursing staff should receive proper orientation and competency assessment.
1. Inventory & Equipment Management





Monitor nursing-related supplies and equipment.

Ensure availability of

- Dressing materials
- IV supplies
- PPE
- Catheters
- Consumables
- Monitoring equipment
- Oxygen-related equipment

Prevent stock-outs, wastage, and misuse.
1. Incident Reporting

Ensure proper reporting and investigation of:
- Patient falls
- Medication errors
- Needle-stick injuries
- Patient complaints
- Equipment-related incidents
- Adverse events
- Near misses
- Infection-control breaches

Participate in corrective and preventive action planning.
1. Coordination With Other Departments

Work closely with:

Ensure smooth patient movement and continuity of care. Daily Responsibilities The Head Nurse should review daily:

- Infection-control concerns

Required Qualifications
- B.Sc Nursing / GNM
- Valid Nursing Council registration
- BLS certification preferred
- ACLS certification will be an advantage

Experience
- Minimum 4–6 years of clinical nursing experience
- At least 1–2 years in a supervisory / senior nursing role preferred
- Experience in a multispeciality hospital will be preferred
- Experience in Orthopaedics, OT, ICU, Emergency, or surgical nursing will be an added advantage
