Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Head – Mechanical Design with strong expertise in Machine Design to lead our Mechanical Design team. The candidate will be responsible for managing the design function, providing technical guidance and hands-on support to the team, and ensuring the successful execution of machine design projects from concept to manufacturing.

The ideal candidate should be a strong technical leader and people manager who can guide the team, solve complex engineering problems, and ensure robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable machine designs.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, manage, and mentor the Mechanical Design & Machine Design team.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and designers throughout the design process.
- Take ownership of machine design projects from concept development to detailed design and manufacturing.
- Develop and review machine concepts, mechanisms, assemblies, and components.
- Review and approve 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, engineering calculations, and design documentation.
- Ensure designs are reliable, safe, cost-effective, and easy to manufacture and assemble.
- Support the team in resolving complex mechanical, structural, kinematic, and machine design problems.
- Guide the team in material selection, component selection, tolerances, GD&T;, fits, and design calculations.
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Production, Quality, Procurement, and Project teams to ensure smooth execution.
- Conduct design reviews, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Drive design optimization, standardization,



cost reduction, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, company design practices, and project requirements.
- Plan and allocate design resources based on project priorities and team capabilities.
- Monitor project timelines and ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
- Develop the technical capabilities of the team through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
- Act as the key technical escalation point for critical machine design issues.

Required Experience & Technical Skills
- 10–20 years of experience in Mechanical Design, with significant experience in Machine Design.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a Mechanical Design team.
- Strong hands-on experience in designing machines, mechanisms, assemblies, and mechanical systems.
- Excellent understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering calculations.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Machine design and mechanism design
- Power transmission systems
- Bearings, shafts, gears, couplings, belts, chains, etc.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Material selection
- GD&T;, fits, and tolerances
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Structural and load calculations
- Manufacturing and fabrication processes
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, Inventor, or equivalent.
- Ability to review and validate complex mechanical designs.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.





Leadership & People Management The candidate should be capable of leading from the front while supporting the team technically.

- Identify and develop future technical leaders within the team.

Preferred Candidate Profile
- Strong background in Machine Design / Special Purpose Machine (SPM) Design / Automation Machine Design / Industrial Equipment Design.
- Experience taking designs from concept → detailed engineering → manufacturing → assembly → testing.
- Strong practical understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Positive communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions and take ownership of engineering outcomes.
