GENERAL MANAGER – FMCG DISTRIBUTION

We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented General Manager to independently manage and drive our FMCG distribution operations in Karur.

The General Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of the distributorship, covering sales, market execution, manpower, stock and warehouse management, collections, claims, operational controls and coordination with the principal company.

Key Responsibilities

- Take overall responsibility for sales, distribution and operational performance of the business.
- Lead and monitor the sales team, supervisors, delivery team, warehouse staff and other operational employees.
- Ensure achievement of monthly sales targets, category targets, outlet coverage and productivity objectives.
- Review salesman-wise and route-wise performance and take corrective action where required.
- Improve market coverage, product availability, range selling and depth of distribution across retail and wholesale outlets.
- Conduct regular market visits and identify opportunities, competitor activities and execution gaps.
- Ensure proper stock planning and inventory management, with special focus on avoiding stock-outs, excess inventory, damages and expiries.
- Monitor collections, outstanding payments, credit control and retailer accounts.
- Ensure efficient warehouse operations including inward, outward, stock reconciliation, damages and physical inventory.
- Monitor distributor profitability and control operating expenses, manpower costs, delivery costs, damages and other leakages.




- Handle operational issues and coordinate with the ITC sales team / Area Manager wherever required.
- Recruit, train, motivate and evaluate the distribution team.
- Establish strong processes, reporting systems and accountability across departments.

Provide regular MIS reports to management covering sales, stock, collections, expenses, manpower and key operational issues.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who:

- Has 10+ years of experience in FMCG distribution, sales or distribution operations.
- Has experience managing a large team and multiple sales routes.
- Understands distributor operations including primary/secondary sales, stock management, claims, credit and collections.
- Is comfortable working extensively in the market rather than managing only from the office.
- Has strong leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Is proficient with Excel, sales reports and basic MIS analysis.
- Can communicate effectively in Tamil and English.
- Has prior experience with a leading FMCG company or FMCG distributor. Experience with ITC distribution will be an added advantage.

What We Expect This is an ownership-oriented role, not just a sales position. The General Manager will be expected to run the day-to-day distributorship professionally, identify problems before they escalate and continuously improve sales, service levels, productivity and profitability.

Salary: Competitive and based on experience

Incentives: Performance-linked incentives can be offered based on achievement of agreed KPIs.
