- Drawing Interpretation: Decode structural shop drawings to extract plate cutting lists, camber requirements, and intermediate stiffener positions.
- Cutting & Fit-Up: Oversee CNC multi-torch flame or plasma cutting of flange and web plates, verifying precise root gaps and bevel angles.
- Fit-Up Inspection: Supervise the assembly and fit-up of webs, flanges, and stiffeners on specialized girder lines to ensure absolute alignment.
- Distortion Control: Design and implement specific structural welding sequences to mitigate heat-induced warping, twisting, or bowing.
Quality Assurance & Welding Supervision
- Welding Standards: Monitor automatic Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) operations according to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Defect Prevention:
Proactively analyze fishbone diagrams or cause-and-effect logs to systematically reduce weld defects like porosity or slag inclusion.
- NDT Coordination: Coordinate with internal quality teams and third-party inspectors for Non-Destructive Testing, including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT), and Radiographic Testing (RT).
- Trial Assembly: Oversee the shop trial assembly of consecutive girder segments to guarantee accurate field bolt-hole matching before painting and shipping.
