About the Role

We are looking for an experienced SME Underwriter with strong expertise in Commercial Lines and SME insurance products. The role will be responsible for assessing risks, evaluating policy requirements, obtaining competitive terms from insurers, and providing technical underwriting support to the business and sales teams.

Location: Ahmedabad (Thaltej), Mumbai ( Andheri)

Key Responsibilities

- Evaluate and underwrite SME and Commercial Lines insurance risks based on client requirements and risk profiles.
- Handle underwriting across products including Fire, Burglary, Marine, Engineering, Liability, and Miscellaneous Insurance.
- Analyse client risk exposures, policy requirements, coverage, exclusions, deductibles, and applicable terms and conditions.
- Liaise with insurance companies to obtain competitive quotations, underwriting terms, and approvals.
- Review and compare insurer quotations to recommend the most suitable coverage and pricing options.
- Provide technical underwriting support to the sales team for client discussions, proposals, and presentations.
- Prepare customised insurance solutions based on the client's business profile and risk exposure.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of underwriting documentation, policy terms, and processes.
- Maintain strong working relationships with insurers, sales teams, clients, and other stakeholders.




- Ensure all underwriting activities are aligned with IRDAI guidelines and internal company policies/processes.
- Stay updated on market trends, insurer offerings, underwriting guidelines, and developments across Commercial Lines.
- Support business growth through technical expertise, product knowledge, and effective insurance solutions.

Key Requirements

- 36 years of experience in SME / Commercial Lines underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of EB & Non-EB insurance products, with hands-on experience in Commercial Lines.
- Good understanding of risk assessment, underwriting principles, policy terms, coverage, and exclusions.
- Experience dealing with multiple insurers and negotiating rates, terms, and conditions.
- Proficiency in insurance portals, quotation/underwriting tools, MS Excel, and presentation software.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to understand complex risks and recommend appropriate insurance solutions.
- Robust coordination skills with insurers and internal sales/business teams.
- Good knowledge of IRDAI regulations and insurance industry practices.

Preferred Industry Background: Insurance Company | Insurance Broker | TPA
