1. Role Purpose To lead Process Engineering and Basic Engineering activities for new projects, capacity expansion, process improvement, debottlenecking, and technology development initiatives. The role is responsible for developing process design packages, engineering calculations, process optimization studies, technology transfer support, and ensuring protected, efficient, and economically viable plant designs for chemical manufacturing operations.

2. Key Responsibilities

- Process Engineering & Design

- Develop and review process engineering packages for greenfield, brownfield, and expansion projects.
- Prepare process flow diagrams (PFDs), process descriptions, and material balance calculations.
- Develop process design criteria and engineering philosophies.
- Define operating parameters and critical process conditions.
- Review process feasibility and techno-commercial viability of projects.
- Ensure process designs meet production, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

2. Basic Engineering Development

- Prepare Basic Engineering Design Package (BEDP) for new projects.
- Develop Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;).
- Define equipment sizing and specifications.
- Prepare utility consumption calculations for steam, cooling water, chilled water, nitrogen, compressed air, and power.
- Develop line sizing calculations and process control philosophies.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables required for detailed engineering.

3. Technology Transfer & Commercialization

- Lead scale-up and technology transfer activities from laboratory and pilot scale to commercial manufacturing.
- Prepare technology transfer documents and process manuals.
- Support commissioning and start-up activities for newly implemented technologies.




- Validate process performance during commercial production.
- Identify and resolve process challenges during commercialization.

4. Process Optimization & Debottlenecking

- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes for productivity improvement.
- Conduct process simulations and performance analysis.
- Identify process bottlenecks and recommend improvement solutions.
- Improve plant throughput, cycle time, yields, and energy efficiency.
- Support profit improvement and operational excellence projects.

5. Equipment Engineering Support

- Prepare technical specifications for process equipment.
- Review equipment designs provided by engineering consultants and vendors.
- Participate in vendor discussions and technical bid evaluations.
- Support selection of reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, pumps, storage tanks, dryers, filters, and utility systems.
- Ensure equipment suitability for intended process requirements.

6. Process Safety Engineering

- Lead HAZOP, HAZID, What-If Analysis, PSSR, and Risk Assessment studies.
- Develop process safety design requirements.
- Recommend safeguards for hazardous processes.
- Ensure compliance with process safety management principles.
- Support incident investigations related to process safety concerns.

7. Project Engineering Support

- Coordinate with Projects, Engineering, Production, EHS, QA, and Procurement teams.




- Support project execution from concept to commissioning.
- Monitor engineering deliverables and project milestones.
- Ensure timely completion of engineering activities.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues during project execution.

8. Utility & Energy Optimization

- Analyze utility consumption and identify energy-saving opportunities.
- Optimize steam systems, cooling systems, compressed air, and thermal fluid systems.
- Conduct energy conservation studies.
- Recommend utility load reduction initiatives.
- Support sustainability and carbon reduction projects.

9. Technical Documentation

- Prepare and maintain:
- Process Design Basis
- Material & Energy Balances
- PFDs and P&IDs;
- Utility Requirement Calculations
- Process Datasheets
- Equipment Specifications
- Operating Philosophy Documents
- Technology Transfer Dossiers
- Engineering Reports
- Ensure proper document control and revision management.

10. Regulatory & Compliance Management

- Ensure engineering designs comply with:
- Factory Act requirements
- Pollution Control Board norms
- PESO requirements
- Environmental regulations
- Process Safety Standards
- ISO Management Systems
- Responsible Care Guidelines
- Support statutory approvals and project compliance activities.

11. Team Leadership & Capability Building

- Lead a team of Process Engineers and Design Engineers.
- Guide engineers in process calculations and design reviews.
- Monitor project assignments and performance.

Qualifications & Experience

- B.E. / B. Tech in Chemical Engineering.
- 08-10 years of experience in Process Engineering, Basic Engineering, Technology Development, or Chemical Plant Design.
