Position: Deputy Manager Engineering | Process & Utility

Reporting To: Head – Engineering / Plant Head
Position Summary The Deputy Manager – Engineering (Process & Utility) will be responsible for managing and optimizing process engineering and utility systems to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and uninterrupted plant operations.
The role involves process improvement, utility management, equipment reliability, energy optimization, preventive maintenance coordination, troubleshooting, project execution, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Process Engineering
- Monitor and improve plant processes to enhance productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Analyze process parameters and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Support troubleshooting of process-related issues and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, SOPs, process flow diagrams, and operating parameters.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Projects teams for process improvements.
2. Utility Management
- Manage and monitor critical plant utilities such as:
- Compressed air
- Steam and boilers
- Chilled water / cooling systems
- Water treatment and utility water systems
- HVAC and ventilation systems
- Power distribution and electrical utilities
- DG sets and other backup systems
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of utilities for plant operations.
- Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities for reducing energy and operating costs.
- Maintain utility performance records and analyze consumption trends.
3. Engineering & Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of process and utility equipment.
- Identify recurring equipment/process failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Review equipment performance and recommend replacement, modification, or upgradation where required.
- Ensure availability of critical spares and technical support.
4. Projects & Improvement Initiatives
- Participate in engineering projects, plant modifications, expansions, and utility-capacity enhancement projects.
- Prepare technical specifications, equipment requirements, and engineering inputs.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor project execution, commissioning, performance, and timelines.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure engineering and utility operations comply with applicable safety standards and statutory requirements.
- Support implementation of EHS procedures and safe operating practices.
- Ensure proper inspection, testing, and documentation of utility systems.
- Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and corrective-action programs.
6. Team & Vendor Management
- Lead and guide engineers, technicians, and utility personnel.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for maintenance and technical activities.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within defined timelines.

Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Chemical / Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Candidates with relevant postgraduate qualifications or specialized certifications in process, utilities, energy management, or industrial engineering will be preferred.
Experience
- 8–12 years of relevant experience in Engineering, Process Engineering, Utilities, Plant Engineering, or a similar industrial environment.
- Experience in managing process and utility systems in a manufacturing / process industry is preferred.
- Candidates with strong exposure to plant utilities, engineering projects, maintenance coordination, and process optimization will be preferred.
