Job Summary
EY GDS is looking for a Senior Cloud-native Application Engineering professional to design, build and operate microservices-based applications, containerized platforms and intelligent enterprise solutions, primarily on Google Cloud. In this role, you will work on application modernization use cases that combine microservices, managed Kubernetes, contemporary UI frameworks, CI/CD automation, GenAI capabilities and Agentic Solutions to help clients build scalable, resilient and future-ready digital platforms.
You will collaborate with application, platform, data and AI teams to develop cloud-native applications and containerized workloads across public or private hyperscaler environments. While the primary focus will be on Google Cloud, candidates should also understand how similar microservices, container platform, GenAI and Agentic Solution patterns can be deployed on Microsoft Azure where required by client cloud strategy or enterprise architecture needs.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and support microservices-based applications using Java, Java Spring Boot and modern cloud-native engineering practices.
- Build user-facing application components using modern UI frameworks such as ReactJS, Angular, Vue or Flutter.
- Apply microservices architecture principles to design scalable, resilient and independently deployable application components.
- Configure and manage container platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS and Red Hat OpenShift, including managed Kubernetes services on public or private hyperscalers.
- Build, deploy and operate application workloads on container platforms, with hands-on ownership across the complete application and container lifecycle.
- Apply strong public cloud engineering practices, with hands-on expertise in Google Cloud. Professional or Practitioner certification on GCP is required.
- Design reusable cloud-native solution patterns that can be deployed primarily on Google Cloud and adapted for similar deployments on Microsoft Azure where required.
- Integrate GenAI capabilities with application and data workflows to enhance automation, insight generation, predictive analytics and intelligent user experiences.
- Design and support Agentic Solutions that can orchestrate tasks, interact with enterprise systems, automate workflows and improve decision support across business processes.
- Stay current with emerging AI, GenAI and agentic technologies, and identify practical ways to embed intelligent automation into enterprise applications and data platforms.
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines for application builds, container image creation, quality checks and deployment to target platforms.
- Troubleshoot application, platform and deployment issues, and follow standard procedures for escalating unresolved issues to appropriate internal engineering teams.
- Document technical knowledge, deployment steps, support procedures, troubleshooting notes and runbooks in the form of reusable notes and manuals.
- Contribute to peer reviews, documentation, and knowledge assets including runbooks, SOPs, and best practices.
- Responsible for decision-making, optimizing processes, resource management, and overseeing team management as needed for task execution.
- Accountable for allocating personnel, supervising team members, assigning tasks, ensuring that the team has the necessary tools and support to succeed in their roles and optimizing and evaluating their performance to meet organizational goals.
Skills and attributes for success
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in microservices, application modernization and container platforms, preferably OpenShift or managed Kubernetes on public or private hyperscalers.
- Strong experience developing microservices using Java and Java Spring Boot.
- Working knowledge of modern UI frameworks such as ReactJS, Angular, Vue or Flutter.
- Good understanding of microservices architecture, API-led design, distributed application patterns and containerized deployment.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS and Red Hat OpenShift.
- Strong understanding of application and container lifecycle management, including build, packaging, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting and operational support.
- Practical experience setting up CI/CD pipelines for build, validation, container image management and target platform deployment.
- Professional or Practitioner-level Google Cloud certification, with demonstrated hands-on public cloud delivery experience.
- Awareness of multi-cloud deployment patterns, with the ability to adapt similar microservices, container platform, GenAI and Agentic Solution architectures from Google Cloud to Microsoft Azure.
- Basic to working knowledge of Microsoft Azure services relevant to application modernization, container platforms, cloud-native deployment and AI-enabled solutions.
- Working knowledge of GenAI integration patterns for automation, insight generation, predictive analytics and intelligent enterprise workflows.
- Understanding of Agentic Solution patterns, including workflow orchestration, tool integration, task automation, human-in-the-loop controls and enterprise system connectivity.
