Job Title: Copy Editor / Full time role

Role Overview

We are looking for a Copy Editor to support a wide range of academic, research, and communication materials produced by Azim Premji University and the Azim Premji Foundation. The role involves editing, proofreading, and refining content across both print and digital platforms, ensuring clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to editorial standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

- Copy edit and proofread research reports, academic books, and working papers
- Review and edit textbooks and educational content (including NCERT-aligned materials)
- Edit event collaterals such as brochures, invitations, posters, and programme booklets
- Refine and optimise content for both the University and the Foundation websites’
- Edit social media content, ensuring brevity, clarity, and tone consistency
- Ensure consistency in style, grammar, punctuation, and formatting across all materials
- Collaborate with internal teams, including designers, researchers, faculty, and communications teams




- Maintain and update style guides and editorial checklists
- Fact-check references, citations, and data where required

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Excellent command of written English (grammar, syntax, and vocabulary)
- Proven experience in copy editing and proofreading across formats
- Familiarity with academic and research writing conventions
- Ability to adapt tone for academic, institutional, and public-facing communication
- Strong attention to detail and consistency
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and work within tight timelines
- Proficiency in editing tools such as MS Word (Track Changes), Google Docs, and style guides

Additional Experience and Expertise

- Background in English, Journalism, Communications, Publishing, or related fields
- Experience working with educational or non-profit organisations
- Familiarity with APA, MLA, Chicago, or similar citation styles
- Understanding of digital content and SEO basics
