Key Responsibilities:

Outpatient Clinical Services

- Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation of OPD patients.

- Take detailed medical and ophthalmic history.

- Perform visual acuity assessment and complete ocular examination.

- Conduct slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy and intraocular pressure assessment.

- Diagnose and manage common ophthalmic diseases and disorders.

- Evaluate patients presenting with redness, pain, watering, decreased vision, trauma and other ocular complaints.

- Provide treatment plans and appropriate follow-up schedules.

- Identify patients requiring further diagnostic investigations.

- Refer complex cases to Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, Refractive, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplasty or other specialists when indicated.

1. Cataract &
- Surgical Patient Management

- Evaluate patients for cataract surgery.

- Assess surgical indications and suitability of patients for surgery.

- Review biometry, keratometry and other pre-operative investigations.

- Counsel patients regarding cataract surgery, expected outcomes and available intraocular lens options.

- Perform cataract surgery independently where credentialed and experienced.

- Manage routine post-operative cataract patients.

- Identify and appropriately manage or refer surgical complications.

- Participate in other ophthalmic procedures according to experience and hospital privileges.

1. Emergency Ophthalmic Care

Attend and manage ophthalmic emergencies including:

- Ocular trauma

- Corneal foreign body

- Chemical injuries

- Acute red eye

- Sudden loss of vision

- Acute glaucoma symptoms

- Corneal abrasion

- Ocular infections

- Other ophthalmic emergencies

Ensure timely referral of cases requiring specialised or surgical intervention.

1. Diagnostic &
- Clinical Investigations

Interpret and clinically correlate ophthalmic investigations including:

- Refraction





- Tonometry

- Gonioscopy

- Pachymetry

- Visual fields

- OCT

- Fundus photography

- B-scan ultrasonography

- Corneal topography

- Biometry

- Keratometry

- Other ophthalmic diagnostic tests available at the centre

1. Minor Procedures

Perform appropriate ophthalmic procedures based on clinical privileges and competence, including:

- Foreign-body removal

- Epilation

- Syringing and probing where appropriate

- Corneal scraping

- Subconjunctival injections

- Chalazion management

- Minor lid procedures

- Removal of sutures

- Dressing and management of ocular injuries

1. Patient Counselling &
- Communication

- Explain diagnosis and treatment options clearly to patients and attendants.

- Counsel patients regarding medicines, investigations, surgeries and expected outcomes.

- Educate patients regarding compliance, preventive eye care and follow-up requirements.

- Maintain skilled, compassionate and respectful communication.

- Support counsellors and clinical staff in addressing patient-related clinical queries.

1. Inpatient &
- Surgical Care

- Conduct pre-operative assessment of patients.

- Ensure completion of necessary investigations and medical fitness requirements.

- Review admitted ophthalmic patients as required.

- Provide post-operative assessment and management.

- Maintain proper surgical and clinical documentation.

1. Medical Records &
- Documentation

Maintain accurate and complete documentation of:

- History and examination findings





- Diagnosis

- Investigations

- Treatment prescribed

- Surgical advice

- Consent

- Operative notes

- Discharge instructions

- Follow-up advice

Ensure documentation complies with hospital, NABH and applicable statutory requirements.

1. Clinical Quality &
- Patient Safety

- Follow hospital clinical protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.

- Follow infection prevention and control guidelines.

- Ensure rational prescription of medications.

- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement programmes.

- Report adverse events, complications and medication-related incidents.

- Participate in morbidity and clinical review meetings wherever applicable.

- Follow surgical safety protocols and checklists.

1. Coordination with Clinical Team

Work closely with

- Optometrists

- Ophthalmic assistants

- Nurses

- OT staff

- Counsellors

- Pharmacists

- Diagnostic technicians

- Other ophthalmologists and subspecialists

- Centre management

Ensure smooth patient flow and timely completion of investigations, consultations and procedures.

1. Camps &
- Community Ophthalmology

Where required

- Participate in screening camps and outreach programmes.

- Examine referred patients from community camps.

- Identify cataract and other ophthalmic cases requiring hospital treatment.

- Support hospital blindness-prevention and community eye-health programmes.

1. Academic &
- Professional Development

- Keep updated with advances in ophthalmology.

- Participate in CME programmes, workshops and clinical meetings.

- Participate in case discussions and academic sessions.

- Support training of optometrists, nurses, junior doctors and other clinical staff where required.

Pay: ₹150,000.00 - ₹200,000.00 per month
