As a Book Illustrator at Dozti, you will be responsible for developing original illustrations and visual storytelling for books and other long-form literary projects.

You will work closely with authors, literary development partners, editors, and leadership to translate written scenes, characters, environments, emotions, and themes into compelling visual artwork that complements the story rather than simply decorating it.

The role requires strong artistic ability and visual storytelling judgment. You must be able to read and interpret written material, understand the intended tone of a scene, and determine how characters, environments, composition, lighting, and visual details should work together to strengthen the reader's experience.

You will also be responsible for maintaining visual consistency throughout an entire book. Characters, locations, proportions, clothing, objects, and other recurring elements must remain recognizable and consistent from illustration to illustration.

This is not a general graphic design role. It is a dedicated illustration position focused on original artwork, character development, visual storytelling, and book production.

No AI use is allowed in this role.

Responsibilities:





- Create original illustrations for books and long-form literary projects.
- Translate written scenes and creative direction into polished visual artwork.
- Develop characters, environments, objects, and other visual elements based on story requirements.
- Establish character sheets and visual references before producing final illustrations.
- Maintain consistent character appearance, proportions, clothing, environments, and visual details throughout a book.
- Develop compositions that effectively communicate action, emotion, atmosphere, and narrative meaning.
- Collaborate with authors and literary teams to understand the intended tone and purpose of individual scenes.
- Produce concept sketches and visual explorations before moving into finished artwork when appropriate.
- Incorporate creative feedback and revise illustrations while maintaining the integrity of the established visual direction.
- Prepare final artwork according to professional print and digital publishing specifications.
- Maintain organized source files, working files, character references, and final artwork.
- Contribute to the development of a consistent visual identity across individual books, series, and related intellectual property.

Requirements:

- 3 or more years of professional illustration experience or a portfolio demonstrating equivalent ability.
- Exceptional drawing and illustration skills with a strong understanding of composition, perspective, anatomy, lighting, color, and visual hierarchy.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating original illustration work and visual storytelling ability.
- Ability to interpret written scenes and transform them into compelling visual compositions.
- Strong character design skills and the ability to maintain character consistency across numerous illustrations.




- Advanced proficiency with professional digital illustration tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, or equivalent software.
- Ability to work across different visual moods and adapt an established artistic direction when required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to incorporate precise creative feedback.
- Understanding of professional print resolution, color modes, dimensions, bleed, and file preparation.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a structured literary development process.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

- Experience illustrating professionally published books.
- Experience with narrative fiction, illustrated stories, or character-driven literary projects.
- Strong workplace and background illustration abilities.
- Experience developing character sheets, expression sheets, and visual style guides.
- Familiarity with book layout and the relationship between illustration, typography, and page composition.
- Experience preparing artwork for both print and digital publication.
- Ability to work across realistic, stylized, and imaginative illustration styles.
