Job Title: Senior Analyst - Accounting & Taxation
What are we looking for?
We want to hire someone who has experience managing and optimizing the tax functions within the organization. Responsibilities will encompass overseeing compliance with tax regulations and identifying tax planning opportunities.
To take it further, in an ideal world, we are not just looking for someone with taxation exposure, effective communication and analytical skills but also a keen observation on internal controls and improvements.
Major Roles & Responsibilities
- 1. Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and file US and Canadian federal, state, and provincial tax returns
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns, including extensions and amendments.
- Research and apply relevant tax laws and regulations to complex tax issues.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess the impact on the organization.
2. Tax Provision:
- Calculate and analyze US and Canadian income tax provisions, including current and deferred tax liabilities.
- Prepare detailed work papers to support tax provision calculations.
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
3. Tax Planning:
- Identify and implement tax-efficient strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Analyze the tax implications of business transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
- Advise on tax-effective structuring of transactions.
4. Tax Audits:
- Respond to audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
- Prepare and provide documentation to support tax positions.
- Represent the organization in tax audits and appeals.
5. Accounting:
- Accounting tasks, such as journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Provide support to the finance team on tax-related matters.
- Education & Experience Is Education overrated? Yes. We believe so. But there is no way to locate you otherwise. So we might look for at least a Masters degree in commerce from an accredited university and prefer a Masters in finance. A higher degree, CA, CMA, or MBA/PGDBA in Finance will be an added advantage.
1. Proven work experience of 3-5 years in a similar role.
2. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3. CPA or CA designation preferred.
4. Strong understanding of US and Canadian tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles.
5. Experience with tax compliance, tax provision, and tax planning.
6. Proficiency in tax research and analysis.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
8. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
9. Solid organizational and time management skills.
10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience with international tax issues.
2. Knowledge of tax automation tools and processes
3. Forms like 1120, 1065, 1040, Sales and Use tax returns, Franchise tax, GILTI, etc.
