Senior Java Developer – ISPL ITG Payment Services (Mumbai)

The role is part of BNP Paribas India Solutions, a 24 × 7 delivery hub for the Group’s Corporate & Institutional Banking, Investment Solutions and Retail Banking businesses. Reporting to the IT Payment Services department, the senior developer will design, build and optimise data pipelines and backend services using Java, Spring Boot and related technologies. The position requires close interaction with on‑shore stakeholders and the ability to work autonomously in an Agile, cross‑cultural environment.

Job Responsibilities

- Design and implement scalable data pipelines and backend services with Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB and Spark.
- Create and maintain MongoDB schemas, optimise complex queries and manage indexing to ensure high availability and low latency.
- Develop secure, high‑performance RESTful APIs (OAuth2, API‑Gateway) for internal and external data exchange.
- Deploy and manage workloads on cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, GCP) using managed compute and storage services.
- Conduct performance analysis, identify bottlenecks and apply tuning across the data stack.
- Lead code reviews and enforce automated testing (JUnit, Mockito) to uphold quality standards.
- Build Spark‑based ETL pipelines for large‑volume data processing on‑premise and in the cloud.
- Integrate solutions with Kafka as source or target endpoints.
- Collaborate with Tech Leads, Business Analysts and both IT and business teams to resolve technical and functional issues.
- Communicate progress and delivery status clearly, adhere to agreed timelines and actively adopt new technologies.
- Contribute as a team player within a French‑Indian Agile extended team.

Required Education, Skills, AND Experience (MUST‑HAVE)

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,



Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 6–8 years of professional Java development experience, including solid proficiency with Java 8+ and Spring Boot.
- Proven ability to design and implement REST APIs, with knowledge of OAuth2 and API‑Gateway management.
- Hands‑on experience with MongoDB (aggregation framework, sharding, replication, Atlas).
- Demonstrated experience deploying and operating services on public cloud platforms.
- Proficiency with Git, Maven/Gradle and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Solid analytical skills and the ability to solve complex technical problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English.
- Experience working in Agile environments and conducting rigorous code reviews.

Preferred Education, Skills, AND Experience (NICE‑TO‑HAVE)

- Experience with Kafka, Spark, Hadoop and event‑driven architectures.
- Familiarity with complex SQL query writing and relational database optimisation.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated unit/integration testing within DevOps workflows.
- Exposure to banking products or financial services domains.
- Prior experience in a French‑Indian or multinational Agile team.
- Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and apply emerging technologies.
