Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Insurance Verification: Review and verify patient insurance validity, policy effective dates, and network status (in-network vs. out-of-network) prior to appointments. [1, 2]
- Benefit Breakdown: Calculate exact patient financial responsibilities, including deductibles, maximum out-of-pocket limits, coinsurance, and copayments. [1]
- Multi-Channel Outreach: Navigate insurance provider web portals (e.g., Availity, NaviNet), use Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, or call insurance representatives directly to get complete benefits profiles. [1]
- System Documentation: Input detailed, structured notes regarding coverage, policy limitations, and coordination of benefits (COB) into the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Payer Portals: Proficiency with clearinghouses and insurance portals like Availity, NaviNet, and major Medicaid/Medicare platforms.
- Terminology: Robust understanding of medical billing terminology, including CPT codes, ICD-10 diagnostic codes, and HCFA regulations.
- Communication: Robust spoken and written English skills for frequent verbal
