Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is an appointment at the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE).

The Integrated Modeling Group in the Theory Division of the LLE is seeking an outstanding computational and theoretical scientist to conduct rigorous, high-impact research in radiation-hydrodynamic modeling and development relevant to inertial confinement fusion (ICF), high energy-density physics, and fundamental science. The successful candidate will make significant contributions to ongoing efforts in high-fidelity modeling of ICF and HED experiments on OMEGA and NIF and associated code validation; support and develop necessary improvements in LLE modeling tools, and work closely with experimental physicists to plan and execute experiments.

Candidates must have strong experience in computational physics and experimental modeling, as well as solid programming skills in C++, Fortran, or other modern programming languages. The ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: computational physics, radiation hydrodynamics, and plasma physics.

Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in designing and modeling radiation hydrodynamic modeling ICF and HED experiments conducted on the OMEGA and NIF laser systems
- Contribute to the development of current physics capabilities for LLE’s radiation-hydrodynamics codes
- Apply modern high-performance computational techniques to improve the performance of radiation-hydrodynamics codes at LLE
- Collaborate with experimentalists at LLE and partner institutions for validation of LLE codes against experimental data
- Publish research results in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
- Advise graduate and underg
