Our client is one of the leading MNC in the maritime industry with a solid international client base and offices around the globe. To support their strategic growth, they are seeking an experienced Manager, Operations to join their Fleet Personnel Division in Mumbai.
Manager, Operations
Based in Mumbai, India
Overview: Reporting to the Head of FPD Operations, this role is designed for a maritime professional who thrives at the heart of crew management and operational planning—delivering strategic leadership across senior officer sourcing, career progression, and seafarer welfare. Going beyond routine crewing logistics, this position offers broad organizational exposure across officer retention strategies, flag state compliance, pre-joining training, and owner relations, providing a unique platform to drive high operational standards and nurture a high-performing marine talent pool across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee rank-wise planning, officer availability, and roster matrix coordination while utilizing performance appraisals to optimize crew placements for Chief Engineer, First Engineer, Master and Chief Officer
- Drive seafarer engagement and retention initiatives, keeping open lines of communication and tracking welfare requirements for officers during shore leave
- Manage career progression pathways by tracking officer eligibility, coordinating promotion panels, and facilitating assessment interviews
- Coordinate pre-joining briefing sessions, map out mandatory training programs, and ensure all certifications and flag documentation meet flag state and DG Shipping requirements
- Maintain daily ship-to-shore operational communications, update vessel rotation planners, and present crewing metrics during joint meetings with owners and technical leads
- Supervise crew change logistics, visa procurement, travel arrangements, dispensation applications,
and audit preparations for RPSL compliance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of shore-based crewing, crew management, or marine HR experience within the maritime industry
- Previous experience managing bulk carriers for crewing, crew management, or marine HR experience is a must
- Preferably with previous experience in using CFM - Cloud Fleet Management System or other crewing system with RPSL exposure
- Strong knowledge of maritime labor regulations, Flag State mandates, DG Shipping procedures, and industry compliance standards
- Proven ability to build strong, supportive relationships with marine officers and seagoing crew to maintain high retention rates
- Excellent organizational skills with hands-on proficiency using maritime crewing software and planning applications
- Willingness to travel (approximately 40% travel requirement)
